Protect Your Online Identity
Media stories about identity theft are common and frequently include suggestions for protecting personal information, whether working online, sending mail, using ATM machines, even when putting sensitive documents in the curbside trash.
Here are some tips that will help you reduce the risk of online identity theft:
§ Don't leave credit card information on Web sites. Although a convenience for automatic, recurring payments, the practice increases risk because the security of your information is no longer in your hands. If the site is compromised by a hacker, your data is there for the taking.
§ Use one credit card with a lower credit limit for all online purchases.
§ Change sign-in information immediately if you suspect a site is not secure.
§ Regularly check your online banking and other accounts for unauthorized purchases or activities.
§ Never provide your Social Security number to an online service without a compelling reason (applying for a loan, filling out government forms, etc.) Always question a site's need to have your SS number.
§ Never provide personal or financial information online unless you initiate the transaction.
§ Watch for security on the sites you access: look for a lock icon in the status bar and Web addresses that start with https-the s is for security.
If you suspect your computer is infected by malware (malicious software), refrain from activities that require user names or passwords until the malware is removed.
Report identity theft as soon as possible. Forms and other necessary information are available from the Federal Trade Commission at

Meet the Tobin Staff...
Kristy Schaff, Office Manager
Kristy Schaff, the newest member of the Tobin Team, became Office Manager in December. She is quickly learning the nuances of the job and keeping our office running like a well-oiled machine or a finely tuned computer, making certain i's are dotted and t's crossed so our records are accurate and up-to-date.
Besides handling ordering, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tracking client agreements, she keeps the kitchen supplied with goodies!
Kristy comes to us with a wealth of experience gained from jobs as a secretary, sales representative, recruiter, office manager, and best of all, massage therapist. She also has a Certificate in Piano Pedagogy, which means she's a trained piano teacher.
In her off time, she is preparing for the Ironman 70.3 to be held in Racine this coming July. Entrants compete to see who can swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and run 13.1 miles the fastest. Having completed six full marathons of 26.2 miles each and many half-marathons allows her to run circles around most of us at Tobin Solutions.
Other interests are knitting, learning to play guitar, massage therapy, and cooking. We discovered her culinary talent firsthand when she provided a delicious home-cooked chili lunch for our last quarterly meeting.
Kristy says, "I love people and have made a career out of customer service and helping others. I look forward to assisting Tobin Solutions' clients." |
OUTLOOK TIP: Visual Cues for Outlook Messages
Visual cues such as bold type and icons communicate the nature of messages in the Inbox for quick identification.
Some examples:
· Unopened e-mails are bolded. Selecting a message eliminates bolding, making it easy to see which messages have been accessed.
· The icon to the left of a new message is a closed envelope; when the message is viewed, the icon changes to an open envelope.
· Various statuses are indicated by other icons-a calendar icon announces an appointment request, an envelope with a blue arrow is applied to messages that were responded to, and a purple arrow on an envelope indicates a forwarded message.
· In the navigation bar on the left side of Outlook, the number in parenthesis after the Inbox states how many unread messages are in the Inbox. |
We sincerely hope you appreciate our service as much as we appreciate your business!
