How To Take A Punch!
If you're a lover and not a fighter, that is fine, but if some joker is hittin on your lady or bad talking your mama, you need to be ready to throw down. The key to a successful fight is the ability to take a punch as well as dish it out.
Taking a punch is like eating broccoli...the more you do it, the more your body becomes accustomed. Allowing a friend to punch you in the face and stomach is where David Thomas suggests we start. He says when we get to the place that we don't flinch anymore, we know we are ready. Bullies expect you to flee in terror. Facing up to them is half the battle. For the other half, here are some practical steps.
First, steer clear of getting hit if you can. Out maneuver your foe. Usually you'll see it coming, take a diagonal step forward. If you time it right the other guy will punch thin air and you'll be standing close enough to him to deliver a counter punch. What you do now is "stun and run." Here are your options:
Fist in the lower back (known as a kidney punch). Hit him on the side of his spine, as low as possible.
Fist to the base of the neck. Strike the bend where the shoulder becomes the neck.
Fist or elbow to the nose. Hit him as hard as you can in the nose, preferably with the base of the palm.
Fist to the rib cage or slightly below. He'll be thinking about taking his next breath while you run.
Knee to the groin. (no explanation needed.)
Remember it is better to give than to receive. Now run! If getting hit is inevitable, keep the following principles in mind:
Avoid a direct blow. Deflect or block blows with your fists and forearms. Protect your ribs and chest with your upper arms.
Go inside. (Move your feet. Don't just lean.) Get inclose to the attacker. If you're in close, he can't extend on his punches. However, watch out for the knees, head butts, and elbows. Those are very effective at close quarters. Don't panic! If you panic, you'll have a hard time recovering from a blow, As you get older, your recover time will increase, but you'll be losing your memory by then anyway, so don't sweat it.
Even God had to go to war and fight. There was war in Heaven. Peace could not be negotiated. Sometimes a man has to be like God and fight! When you do, remember, Greater is He who is in you than any foe you will face. He will anoint you to take out the goliaths and devils you must face!
