July 26, 2011, The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the White House Business Council Hosted the Winning the Future Roundtable with American Business....

This Roundtable featured the Honorable  Frank Kendall, Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. The President made clear in his State of the Union address that we as a country must commit to winning the future: out-innovating, out-building and out-educating the rest of the world. After his address, the President asked senior Administration officials to get on the road, hosting roundtable discussions with business leaders across the country. The purpose of these roundtables is to listen to local businesses, getting feedback on how the Administration can best support their growth. It is also to make sure that local business leaders are taking advantage of the Administration resources and programs designed to help them create jobs and compete.

The White House Business Council members selected 100 communities to host roundtables across the country. The Virginia Peninsula region is one of these communities. Being selected demonstrates the relevance and the importance of the Peninsula across the country. gives Peninsula business leaders the opportunity to be heard and to engage with senior Administration officials in an open, ongoing and face to face dialogue that can translate into concrete action to grow jobs and to increase economic competitiveness on the Peninsula and across the country.

Mike Kuhns, Chamber President/CEO said, "Having Secretary Frank Kendall visit with Peninsula business leaders to discuss government contracting opportunities demonstrates the relevance of the Peninsula business community, which fits well with the Chamber's focus of connecting business with opportunity."

In attendance were 28 Peninsula business leaders from the government contracting arena, which included Jack Ezzel, Zel Technologies; Jeff Wassmer, Spectrum; Mike Melo, ITA International; Robert Fitzgerald, Bosh Global Services; Mark Hanna, Virginia Company Bank, and others.

At the end of the roundtable discussions, Deputy Under Secretary Kendall said, " This has been fantastic for me. It has been helpful for us and hopefully for you." He went on to say, "This has been very successful."
