enrichment. In addition to a diversity of lectures and discussions, there will be hands-on training sessions, cooking classes, and time to address issues of specific importance to you. We will work with the current foster birds at the Landing, so you can teach behavior, foraging and feeding new foods first hand, and learn to put those skills to practice with your own birds. Anyone with parakeets to macaws will benefit!

The Phoenix Landing Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer
organization. It was established to promote and protect the welfare of
parrots through adoption, education, and refuge.
Beauty comes with age, and parrots live a long time. Even the smallest parakeet can live many years. Please consider adoption first!

ZEUS
Hi, my name is Zeus, a "too" cute greater sulpher crested cockatoo. My friends say I am debonaire, irresistible, and more gorgeous than a yellow diamond! When I hear the strains of a Samba, or a simple "waltzing Matilda", I just have to sway into the music. We can share perfect evenings - some great music, then a classic movie. Maybe I could have some of your salt-and-butter-free popcorn. I won't tell anyone you had tears on your cheeks. Let's not forget a dinner of fresh fruits and veggies, maybe some quinoa, and of course some nuts and yogurt for dessert. When you go to work, I will wait for you ever so patiently, playing with my toys and watching Sesame Street, because I've been taught the greatest cockatoo skill possible - independence! But when you walk through the door, I will greet you enthusiastically while you tell me about your day. I really want to have new friends and a family to call my own. I am Zeus, open the door to your home, and I will surely open your heart. [Asheville, NC]

JESSE Jesse is a 16 year old red fronted macaw. She is recovering from a prolonged skin infection, that may have caused permanent feather loss. Jesse will need to continue frequent showers with a medicated mist to keep her skin healthy. Jesse spent many years eating a seed only diet, but now loves her Harrison's pellets, Nutriberries and healthy nuts, especially walnuts (walnuts are high in essential fatty acids!). She is just beginning to try other fresh foods, and loves to eat a warm dinner from a spoon.
Jesse never learned "manners" in her former home, and is just starting to step onto a hand held perch. She will come out onto a portable perch to be moved from one place to another. Although Jesse does not use many words, she does understand much of what is said to her or around her. She enjoys music, and will sometimes try to sing along with a little "hop, hop, hop." Jesse is a very people focused bird, and would like to be lavished with love and attention, which she is ready to give in return. [Baltimore, MD].

GLOSTER CANARIES
Cute 6 year old canaries, they look like they have little hats! Canaries are perfect for someone who is
interested in birds that do not need to interact with people to be
happy. What canaries really want from their adoptive home is good food,
clean fresh water, a couple of simple "preening" toys, and a good sized
cage that provides plenty of space to exercise and to sing. They are
easy to care for and will charm you with their antics and song. [Germantown, MD]

TIFFANY
Tiffany is an adorable little ctitron cockatoo, but she also has a huge personality. Tiffany is friendly and steps up to almost anyone. She doesn't want to be rewarded with food, just scritches and kissy noises. In return she coos, clucks, bobs her head, and makes a hilarious laughing sound - always with you, never at you, of course. She was timid when she first arrived at her foster family's house, but with some patience she's come out of her shell. She spends time with her family on various perches, arms, and laps but also values her quiet time. Tiffany sleeps 12 hours a day and knows exactly when bedtime is and is not shy about reminding everyone when she would like to go to sleep. When not out in the main room with the family, she enjoys watching the cartoon network. Tiffany takes showers to stay clean and soft. She has in the past over-preened herself, so her flight feathers aren't quite perfect. Tiffany is missing a toe. We don't know why, but unless you were looking, you wouldn't be able to tell. None of this seems to matter to her as she plays with her toys and eats a healthy diet of Harrison's, birdie salad, birdie bread, scrambled eggs, and whatever else her foster family cooks up for the flock. [Charleston, SC area]

FRED and PETER
Fred the blue and gold macaw and Peter the greenwing macaw are
both wild caught and approximately 37 years old. They've had a bit of a rough patch until
now, but, despite it all, they've had each other, and they are fast
friends.
Each will need their own large cage, but, they really enjoy spending time
out together, playing and chatting. Peter is mostly plucked - much of
it may be is his own doing, but some is actually Fred's
overly-enthusiastic grooming. Pete is well-mannered and curious. He
talks up a storm in English and speaks a little Spanish too. Fred is
also quite plucked and is more timid than Peter.
Both are great eaters
and, now that they are getting a healthy diet, hope is that they will
begin to feather out again, at least a little. They really deserve to spend some time safely outside as well too, some healthy sunshine (essential vitamin D3!!) would do them well. These birds need a
special adopter who can cherish them for their great personalities
while not worrying too much about their lack of feathers. It's what's on
the inside that counts with these two great macaws!

PRINCESS
Princess is a sweet, young 4 year old ringneck parakeet. She loves FOOD & the company of her humans. Princess does well with or without other birds in the house and is happy around children. At her current foster home, flight is safe and she enjoys plenty of time flying around following her family from room to room. This is a privilege she'd like to keep, safely of course.
