Acorns

What's with all the NUTS?

What does it mean?

Some say it means we're headed for a drought!

Are We?

We've had a bumper crop of acorns this autumn.  In the 19th century, settlers in the Central Coast tried to figure out the fickle and changeable local climate.  Anything out of the ordinary was seen as a harbinger of weather to come.  And they thought that abundant acorns MEANT SOMETHING about the future.

Trouble was, they were looking in the wrong direction.  A bumper acorn crop meant a lot about what had happened before, not what was going to happen.

There's one prediction we can make about the future based on this year's acorn crop--there's going to be a gazillion baby oak trees next year along our roads, in our driveways and in our gardens.

To see who WOULD have been happy with such a crop of acorns in the old days...

...Meanwhile, be careful when walking on acorn-covered slopes as they are like little ball-bearings.
