Photographic News

Greetings!

Our thoughts are with Christchurch and our fellow retailers caught out by the quake - three camera stores are in the cordoned off area in the city centre and can't even get back to their stores to assess the damage.
Each natural disaster reminds us of the importance of backing up photos. Images of people retrieving photos from damaged houses is a poignant reminder of how photos are the most important keepsakes in our lives and the newspaper photo of a man in a suit carrying a PC under each arm as he walks through the rubble illustrates the dependance we place on computers.

More on saving photos below.

Digital SLR classes
Lesson plans for our "Understanding Your DSLR camera" are nearing completion and we hope to announce a date for the first class soon.
We're looking at two options:
option 1 - an intensive 3 hour theoretical session on a weekday evening
option 2 - a fullday on a Sunday with theory in the morning and a practical session in the afternoon. Great for those who learn by doing.
We'd like your feedback - either email jill@snapshot.co.nz with option 1 or 2 in your subject line or vote on our facebook Poll (anonymous) - here is the link.

Saving Your Memories

I've just made my third presentation to a local genealogy group about saving photographic memories (Long Term Photo Care).

I'm passionate about people getting their photos digitised as well as as sharing and archiving their digital photos. The recent Queensland floods and Christchurch earthquake are a timely reminder that no amount of insurance can replace the loss of one of your most precious assets - the family photographs.
Please...
start preserving and archiving all your photos (traditional and digital) NOW.

If you have a group looking for speakers I'd love to share this presentation with your members. Email me or phone Jill at 838-0031 to discuss.

Photo Tip : Crop Tightly!
Get close, then get closer, then get really close! FILL THE FRAME with the subject.
We see so many photos on our kiosks with people captured in the landscape format surrounded by furniture or other distractions - just turn your camera vertically and fill the frame with the person or get very close and capture a head and shoulder shot.
When we spot cluttered landscape shots of children on our kiosk we show the customer how to use the rotate and crop tools to get in close and customers are amazed at the difference!

Seen ourKATA BAGS
selection of
KATA bags?

Kata Photo Bags have been designed to be lighter, more protective, and more functional than other photo bags.
Their sunshine yellow interior makes it easy to find small objects in the bag
so it made sense to display the bags on a sunshine yellow slat wall to make the bags easy to find in our store!
If you need a new camera bag then come and check them out - they've got heaps of other unique features in addition to their yellow interiors. Alternatively, check out our current selection here.
Like a Leica?
Our newest member of the Leica family is now in stock and ready for a new home. The Leica X1 is an APS-C sensor point-and-shoot with a 35mm f2.8 Leica lens, all made in Germany and in black.
Check out the other contents of the Leica cabinet here.

Feel free to share this email with friends using the "forward email" link at the bottom of this email. We look forward to seeing you again soon and helping you with your camera and photo memories.

Regards
