Greetings!

            2011 numbers

Happy New Year! The Nutrition Mission Team.

We hope that 2011 is everything you'd like it to be.

If your New Year's resolution is to eat more healthily then getting the support of a Nutrition Mission nutritional therapist is a good idea for you. A nutritional therapist will look at any factors affecting your health including any drivers that may be pushing you to eat foods that you know are bad for you and you can't help but eat.

Did you know that sugar has been shown to be as addictive as cocaine?! It's not an easy task to stick to eating healthily if you're addicted to sugar. A nutritional therapist will be able to look at any drivers of your sugar addiction and help you to wean off it. In the same way that nutritional therapists can help with the addiction of sugar they can also help with other addictions, too - smoking, drinking, caffeine...

We would like to wish all of our reader's good luck with your New Year's resolutions whatever they may be.

Appeal 4 Alfie Charity CookBook Launch.

                   Alfie

Appeal 4 Alfie was set up to raise funds for a young boy

to receive treatment, not available in the UK, for his stage 4 neuroblastoma.  Nutrition Mission worked closely with the family for 6 months and despite his courageous battle, Alfie sadly lost his life at just 2 years of age in July 2010.  His parents Sarah and Dean have continued to raise funds to support other families to make a difference through nutrition.

Together we have prepared a cookbook suitable for any client who wishes to use food as their medicine either to treat an existing imbalance or to ensure good health and wellness.  The book is full of traditional recipes loved by all, especially children, with Sir Ian Botham and Gary Rhodes both supporting our cause.

This week Nutrition Mission will be at the launch of the book in Kent, where boxing legend Barry McGuigan will be opening the day.  Each and every recipe is being made by a local catering college, prior to the book being forwarded to our editors.

Nutrition Mission is proud to be a part of this project and look forward to bringing you our completed book.

Traditionally the beginning of January is a time when a lot of people are focused on their New Years resolutions such as getting fit or losing weight so feeling a little deprived and down with life. With this in mind we thought we'd talk to you about the amino acid Tryptophan.

Amino acids are said to be the building blocks of life and they are, in fact, the building blocks of protein. Protein is essential for growth and repair, in other words, without a full complement of amino acids every 48 hours your body has no capacity for repairing day-to-day damage or grow new cells to replace old, worn out ones.

Tryptophan is the mood elevating amino acid that also helps you to sleep better, helps to regulate your appetite and suppresses sweet cravings.

If you are suffering from aggression, insomnia, depression or are trying to get on top of sweet cravings you will find huge benefit from eating plenty of high tryptophan foods such as: bananas, chicken, cottage cheese, fish, legumes (beans and peas), lentils, oats, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and turkey.

Chicken is by far the richest source and we would always recommend that you choose organic chicken as non-organic chicken is usually loaded with antibiotics and hormones that will upset your body's own hormones.
