Greetings!

Well, it's almost here... Christmas! We've had some beautiful snow to get us all in the festive mood which although beautiful and Christmassy can have an impact on our day-to-day lives. Check out Emma Follis' update below as to how the snow affected her and the Aston Villa Ladies Football team.

A lot of you will be heading for the Christmas season with a slight sense of dread, wondering if you will be able to avoid all of the sugary and/or alcoholic treats that are offered in abundance during the festive season. Don't fret! At Nutrition Mission we tell our clients that it's what you do between New Year and Christmas that counts to your health not what you do between Christmas and New Year. Give yourself a break, enjoy what you want to enjoy and if that means the odd sugary/alcoholic treat then so be it!

If you have been a Nutrition Mission client for a while the chances are you won't really fancy any of the treats on offer anyway.

However, if you're not a Nutrition Mission client and get the urge toward gluttony don't beat yourself up about it, just make a note to book in with one of our highly qualified nutritional therapists in the New Year so that you can get to a place of eating well and getting on top of any cravings for next year.

Remember: it's not what you eat between Christmas and New Year that counts; it's what you eat between New Year and Christmas that has the biggest impact on your health.

Merry Christmas Everyone and a Happy, Healthy New Year to You All.

The Nutrition Mission Team.

A news update from Emma Follis - our sponsored Aston Villa Ladies Football Club player.

Hi,

You may know that I got called up by England Under 19's, the camp was held in Leicester. We played two games, one was a closed training game which I started and played 60 minutes. That was my debut for England as I hadn't played the previous time I went last year.

We won that game 2-1 against France and the second game was played at Sixfields which is Northampton Towns ground, we also won 3-1 against France, however this was an open game and the public could come and watch. There were about 1,500 people there. It was an amazing experience to get on as this was my first competitive game for them. I also set up our third goal!

I haven't played much for Villa as the weather keeps calling off our games but when we play next I will keep you updated.

 I-3-C

Christmas is coming and we at Nutrition Mission HQ get really excited to have an excuse to eat lots of Brussels sprouts!

Brussels sprouts are packed full of a phytochemical called Indol-3-Carbinol. Indol-3-Carbinol (I-3-C) is found in all cruciferous vegetables which, as well as Brussels sprouts, include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, cress, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi (German turnip), mustard, radishes and turnip and is known for its anticancer effects. I-3-C is released when these vegetables are chewed so in order to get these nutrients chewing is vital.

I-3-C may have a balancing effect on hormones particularly oestrogen, which in its potent form can be a driver of cancer. I-3-C can increase the protective oestrogen metabolites converting them from potentially carcinogenic (cancer causing) oestrogen metabolites. There are different types of oestrogen some that can be protective and some that can be harmful and by eating I-3-C you could be converting the harmful oestrogen into the protective oestrogen.

Now you have even more reasons to enjoy your Christmas lunch...! We'll probably have broccoli with ours as well to make sure that it really packs that I-3-C punch.
