The Florida Energy Sustainable Communities Network
Weekly Update

Greetings Network Member,

This is the first of our weekly updates on the Florida Energy Sustainable Communities' Network.  We appreciate your interest in working with other Florida cities and counties to share innovations and coordinate bulk purchasing for sustainable energy.

We did not have a conference call last week, but a lot of very exciting things are happening.
Our initial efforts and conference calls have been very successful in identifying broad interest in collaboration and bulk buying.  They also revealed significant barriers to collaboration that need to be addressed.

FSU is ramping up to address these issues at two levels:   First we plan to conduct focused regional workshops throughout the state.  We hope to meet with you and other interested governments in your area to identify your specific needs and connect you with the key players necessary to put projects together.   Second, we will continue our statewide dialogue on a more systematic basis and share the insights and successes of our regional workshops.

By expanding our efforts and formalizing the Florida Energy Sustainable Communities Network we will make large scale energy savings a reality.  Dr. Feiock will continue to lead this effort and we are hiring a full time program coordinator to manage the daily operations and coordinate the expanded program.  We have been working closely with the U.S. Department of Energy in planning this strategy.  We are also working with the Florida City/County Manager Association on a state wide conference in early December.

We appreciate your early involvement and expect it will translate into investments that produce substantial energy cost savings to your government.  If you need more information please feel free to contact me (rfeiock@fsu.edu; 850-322-6000).

Sincerely,

Rick Feiock
