Greetings!
This month we want to fill you in on a few interesting events that have occurred since our last edition. As our lead story will explain, we continue to expand our international readership. Also, there are several technical articles, an update on our friends with S.M.O.K.E., Bill Everline's latest exploits, and more.
Enjoy the balance of the month,

The Evergreen Newsletter Goes International!
It is an honor to acknowledge and welcome our international brothers and sisters to the Evergreen monthly newsletter. Since our last edition, we have been joined by a pair of very sharp and resourceful fellows in Slovakia and Bosnia. Also, from an even greater distance; there are the good folks from "down-under" in Australia. Then neighboring our friends in Australia, is our most recent member in New Zealand. Last and certainly not least, are our long time friends in sunny Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Welcome All!
I personally find it immensely rewarding to be connected with people across the world. It is my firm conviction that if there is ever to be world peace, it will be due in large measure to the connections individuals will make with one another via the Internet.
How unlikely though, is the fact that our common international connection should be our love (and sometimes hate) relationship with the wide format industry? Life is fraught with irony!
Thank you Xerox, without whom these connections may never have happened! |

Help Your Machines Chill & Breathe Easier
Many consider the ozone filters in their printers as a nuisance, and often toss them in the trash. Perhaps worse than this approach, is to completely ignore these silent sentinels. Either approach is a mistake, and should be reconsidered.
Ignoring the ozone filter allows dirt to build up on its surface, as the picture here illustrates. The result of a clogged ozone filter is chiefly reduced air flow through the printer. This in turn causes an elevated ambient operating temperature within the printer. If you experience persistent squealing of the cleaning blade, check the ozone filter for clogging.
Removing the ozone filter creates a different set of problems. The airflow increases, which in turn causes excess dust and dirt from the surrounding area to be pulled into and through the printer. Compare the inside top cover of an 8830 or 510 from a machine that has its ozone filter installed, to one where the filter has been removed. What you will find is a greater degree of dust buildup on the machine without the ozone filter. If the inside top cover is getting dirtier, what do you suppose is happening to the scorotron?
Then there is the environmental impact from increased levels of ozone in the area surrounding the machine. In fact, increased ozone levels can be harmful to human health, particularly those with respiratory problems.
If only this excess ozone where helping the depletion in our ozone layer!
So be kind to your machines, and your customers. Clean and replace those ozone filters regularly. Everyone will breathe easier! |

Squeeze All The Grapes! |
You may have noticed that my compadre Bill Everline has been missing from the phones of late. For those who don't know, Bill lives in the middle of a vineyard. As such, this time of year Bill is called upon by his feudal landlord to pay the price for living in such a bucolic setting all year long. That price being the joining in for the "gathering of the grapes." So like so many generations preceding him, Bill has been busy working so that in about a year from now, "joy will be upon the land."
We can conjure up the picture in our minds of Bill, like Lucy, stomping grapes in a large wooden vat. It is understandable now, why the wine from this vineyard has a particular kick to it!
I am assured that Bill will back in the saddle in a few more weeks. He may be dragging his butt by then. However, he assures us that after some six weeks of manual labor, he will be relieved to have his "office job" back!

Follow-up on Team S.M.O.K.E.
Last month, we told you about a pair of imaginative fellows from Florida. This pair have converted an old Xerox 8825 printer into a meat smoker. (See the August issue) Steve and Mike have less than a month before entering their contraption into the Mulberry's Fine Swine Cook-off. Our heroes have been diligently working away to perfect their techniques and the machine. In dedication to their great goal, they have had to "consume mass quantities" in order to better test their rig for the big two day competition on October 9 & 10.
Since our last account, Mike and Steve have scavenged panels from an old scanner to better frame up the top area. Then they added a photoreceptor drum shaft as a handle for the lid! We understand that the smoker is working great, and has been used recently to smoke up some yummy meals.
Stay tuned, next month we bring you the results after the judges have their say! |

Metering Blade Update
The Game Is Afoot!
|
Anyone with mid-high volume 6204's and 6279's knows; there are service issues that result from the metering blades becoming contaminated in the developer housings of these machines. Xerox is working on resolving the problem on the 6279, and so is Evergreen Technologies. Who will get to the finish line with a resolution first is anyone's guess. However, rest assured that one way or the other, this problem will one day become a thing of the past!
The mad scientist at Evergreen has been burning the lamp oil pondering over this problem. The word from the lab is that a prototype metering blade in being tested as you read this article.
If you have any high volume 6204's or 6279's and are interested in becoming part of the test group, drop us a line. Participating in the test group will qualify your dealership for discounts on the production version of the metering blade. So help bolster the 6279's reliability, join the mad doctor's minions!
