Northern Ireland Figaro Owners Run, 29th May 2010.
|
We have a double whammy this Month member Alan Doherty who sent in pictures of a meeting they had in Northern Ireland and his car for Car-of-the-Month (below) Alan takes up the story...
"We met up at the Oxford Island Discovery Centre near Lurgan in County Armagh....this is on the edge of Lough Neagh, the largest inland Water lake in Britian & Ireland, and the 6th Largest in Europe. Lough Neagh also encompasses historic sites and wildlife reserve. This was then followed by a drive through the Historic City of Armagh, followed by a well deserved lunch stop at the Armagh City Hotel.
Unfortunately it rained a little and a lot, although it dried up in time for us all going home. It was a fun and enjoyable day out, and we are working to try to get more than 4 cars at our next run. I also own a Nissan Cube, and we hope to include a couple of Cube owners on our next run too"
Attending the event were:
Alan Doherty - Lapis Grey
Donna Hunter - Pale Aqua
Heather Routledge - Pink Metallic
Claire Gillen - Emerald Green

Car of the Month ~ July 2010
|
Member Alan Doherty sent in pictures of his immaculate Figaro. As an example just look at the quality of the tyres.
Here is his story
"This is My Figaro 'Oh-Oh' which i bought from Bazf 4 years ago, (16th June 2006) and we have just hit the 50,000km mark (31,000 miles) this year. Oh-Oh lives in Northern Ireland and is a bit pampered and only comes out to play in the summer, then he gets polished more than he gets driven (3,000 miles in 4 years). Oh-Oh is mostly standard which is the way I prefer to keep him aside from the Clarion 360 upgrade, and the factory accessory Cup Holder. He still has original roof, and the interior is all original and hasn't been refurbished, re-dyed, or reconnolised. He is kept in tip top condition, waxoyled and serviced regularly, and polished underneath...yes underneath...
I think there's been some elbow grease on the tyre polish!
I use special carnuba wax and polish all the underside plastics, underfloor, and underneath the wheel arches), as well as all the bits you can see. Oh-Oh lives with my collection of other unusual cars (Lotus Elan, Skoda Rapid Convertible, Nissan Cube, 2 x Bond Bugs etc etc). Enjoy the photos...Alan ' n ' Oh-Oh"

Is this the World's Lowest Mileage Figaro?
|
A couple of weeks ago we were contacted by Member David Rogers who claimed he may have just purchased the world's lowest Figaro! David takes up the story. " I bought the car about a 2 months ago now, from a serious car collector, his air conditioned!!!! garage was a wet dream, Bentleys, 23 screen camper van, mk1 escort rally car, jag e-type, all in mint condition, he bought it for his wife 4 years ago, it has been in a Nissan dealership display window for the previous 16 years.
It drives like a new car, its untouched inside and out!!!
If someone offered me a lot of cash, but where going to garage it, I would take it, I didn't think when I bought it, what a treasure it is. It will be wax holed next week and then I have too think!!!" Mint condition or what! |

How to change the turning signal bulb?
| Central Locking
| Door Panel Removal
| Hi..My turning light bulb on the front grill need changed . How
to take off the lens? Could we change the bulb from the front boot
from the engine bay? Thanks. sexyseiko
The lens doesn't come off. To get the indicator unit out
grip the lens and turn anti clockwise and it should then pull out.
They can be stiff to turn but it should go. To make it turn easier when
your putting it back in smear a light coat of washing up liquid on the
rubber seal.

| I really really want central locking for my fig. Can
this be added in? If so who do I go to for this? Thanks all Tilly
If you're installing an alarm with or without central
locking / keyless entry then go for a Thatcham approved system - theres
several brands but all reach a standard. Many insurance companies will
give you a premium discount for fitting a Thatcham alarm system. The
installer must also be Thatcham approved and you'll be given a
certificate of conformance - ensure you get one. Not cheap but a lot
better than many of the cheap and nasty systems around.
Many
systems nowadays have carjack protection - the doors lock shortly after
being shut and the engine running. This can sometimes be a problem - eg
if you leave the engione running whilst closing the garage door - the
car doors will lock behind you! If this is more of a hindrance than a
help - your installer can bypass the facility

| Hi all,i have an annoying rattle on one speaker in the
fig,i like to play with it,(the car) where possible and would like to
solve the problem myself, the question is,how to remove the inside door
panel to get to the speaker without damaging anything, (step by step
please!),also HE doesn't have a name yet,after 6 years hes still known
as the Fig and i think its time to give him an identity, any suggestions? Elltay
Hi, heres a step by step to remove the door card - I hope
that I don't forget something as it's all from memory even though I've
done it loads of times.
1)
Unscrew the chrome door locking pin at the top of the door. 2) Look
near where the hinge edge is on the door card and you will see 3 small
round plastic clips, GENTLY prize these away from the door, they
do break easily so be careful, there are also similar clips along the
bottom edge and the edge where the door lock is. 3) Wind the window
down. 4) There are 3 screws which need to be taken out and are hidden
behind circular blanking plugs in the door arm rest - one at the front,
one at the rear and one deep down in the recess where you hold to pull
the door close. You will need to prize these blanking pieces out to get
to the screws. 5) The door card should now feel loose, slide the
door card upwards and also away from the door frame - it is actually
located on a groove at the top of the door so thats why you have to lift
it upwards. 6) This should have now released the door card but it
will still be attached by the wiring loom for the windows etc, you just
need to disconnect the connectors and the door card should then be free
from the door.
Depending on the job I'm doing, I don't always
disconnect the wiring looms as you can rest the door card in the door
opening while still having the door open but this does give you only
limited access.
I hope that helps but forgive me if I've
forgotten anything as this is from memory - and that's not saying much.

About the people behind the Figaro Owners Club
My son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro and after saving for years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he brought an Emerald Green one in May 2008. That was it - I was hooked too! Even now we spend many a happy weekend polishing her in the garage. We just love all that chrome...
