What is Networking?
Are you uncomfortable at meetings full of strangers? Consider these meetings, like mixers and networking events as golden opportunites to grow your business, make new friend, and learn more about your local business community.
The purpose of these events for you is to build relationships; clients/customers buy from people they know and trust. This is a good place to make new friends, enhance your reputation, and share your knowledge. Here are a few tricks you can use to make networking work for you.
- Interact with people who you don't already know. Your goal is to make new friends. It is OK to spend a little bit of time with existing customers who might be at the same event, but your concentration should be on new connections.
- Sharing "carrots" of value, this will give your ne prospects a reason to contact you at a later date, to get more information.
- Being prepared - investigate the event before you attend. Know the whys and wherefores of the group you are visiting to enlarge your comfort zone. Arrive properly dressed for the event; business or casual.
- Add to your Marketing base - exchange lots of cards. Put "tickler" notes on the back of the ones you get, for future reference. Be sure to ask permission to add each person to you mailing list.
- Be approachable. Being a wallflower will defeat your purpose for being at the event.
- Follow up-call or send thank you notes, with relevant information. The notes on the back of the business cards you collected should prompt your memory about what you discussed or agreed to do for you new contact.
- Remember your manners! Study if necessary. Courtesy counts!
- And finally, being enthusiastic and have a great time. This may be a business event, but there is no reason you should also have a good time.

Your Money - Your Life
The IRS is Your Friend
The IRS doesn't keep secrets or try to trick you. They want you to know about all potential deductions and to use the ones that apply to your situation. Paying taxes is a responsibility, for everyone. Be sure to check and then check again to confirm that you are taking all of the deductions you deserve.
This is also a good time to re-evaluate your W-4 with your employer. Instead of having, or expecting, a big return, readjust your deductions so you have that cash in your pocket instead of in the pocket of the IRS. The IRS doesn't pay interest on the money they hold for you.
The IRS wants you to remember these three things:
1. You are responsible and liable for the content of your tax return.
2. Anyone who promises you a bigger refund without knowing your tax situation could be misleading, or a scammer. If it is sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3. You should never sign your tax return without looking it over to be sure it is correct and honest, especially if someone else besides you is completing it.
Avoid legal repercussions of submitting fraudulent tax returns; and take every deduction that is appropriate for you. It is your money- protect it.
