Your Elevator Speech

       In business, we are often in a situation where we have to introduce ourselves and present our message in less than a minute. You may have to introduce yourself at a group meeting, or in the line at the grocery store, or in a waiting room somewhere.  This is known as your Elevator Speech or your "30 Second Me". You only have a few seconds to make a connection.

       The situation may be variable, but the system always works the same.  Be flexible depending on where you are and what you want to accomplish.  Mostly, have fun.  You might not be able to make a business connection, but you may be able to make a new friend.

 Your speech includes four parts; it is NOT a sales presentation.

1. State your name as you want to be identified: " Hi-my name is Joan, what's yours?"
2. Insert your tagline/identity:  "I help clients communicate more effectively with their customers". "I teach people how money works" "I help you feel better"
3. What you can offer:  "I work with people who..."
4. Wrap it up:

       This should lead to more conversation.  Most people want to talk about themselves.  USE BOTH EARS.  They will tell you how you can be of value to them.  If they need a little push, ask them:  "Where do you work?"  "What do you do?"

       Networking is critical to building your success. Your Elevator Speech can be a very powerful tool. Don't be shy, speak up.  You will know immediately if you are on track to make a new connection, a new friend, or start a conversation.
