Musings How to Lose 6 Million Dollars Would you like to lose 6 million dollars? It is very easy; just follow these five easy steps: 1. Be sure at least three people have a bad experience in your store. 2. These three people will tell at least 48 other people about what happened and why they won't ever go back to your store. 3. You can expect these 48 people to tell another 576 people (that's only a dozen each) who will tell an additional 5760 people (that's only 10 each). 4. You now have a pool of 6,387 people who won't do business with you, even if they have never met you. 5. You have successfully touched 6,387 people without spending a cent on advertising. Now suppose that your average sale is $1000.00. Do the arithmetic: you have now missed out on over 6 million dollars in sales. You can avoid this success by treating every customer who comes to you as if she or he is the most important customer in the world. Keep in mind that the numbers could work the other way; your small acts of kindness and terrific customer service could just as easily help you earn over 6 million dollars.
