You are in control
We all seem to be in a state of panic about the status of the economy. It doesn't really have to affect you; just spin your thinking a little.
Real Estate has been hit hard, but today's economy should be a boon for agents. Theirs is an industry that should never suffer slumps. In a down economy that are a lot of people who want to buy investment properties; especially the bargains that seem to abound. As the economy begins to rebound there are a lot of people who want to sell. In between there is a growing rental market.
Do-it-yourself stores should be enjoying great sales. For the people who want a new environment, but can't afford to move, upgrading their home works. It is amazing what a coat of paint or new fixtures can do to a house. Upgrading cabinetry or closets will make your home a new fresh environment for you to enjoy. While you are doing this the stores should be growing.
Auto body and repair shops should also be in a position of capitalizing on a down economy. Many people can't afford a new car right now, but painting an old one will make it "new." Super detailing will make your old ride worthy of your love, again.
These are just three example of how to take advantage of a slow economy. The process just involves your approaching the problem from a different direction. What worked well when people had money? Do the opposite when they don't.
Use some of your extra down time to do more volunteering. Your visibility in the community can bring in a lot of new customers who may have not known about you. Or teach classes, i.e.: car care, home decorating, or beautifying your garden. These will all profit you in the long run.
There is no good reason to sit back and complain; take action. If you do the right things, the right things will happen.
