Changing your internet server gives you a great opportunity to renew a very important marketing strategy. Your email address can say a lot about you and your company. It can also have a negative effect. An addresses like "free@hotmail" or "princess@gmail" don't make you look very good in the eyes of potential clients. Remember the adage about first impressions; your email address is often part of that first impression, keep it professional. If you want to use a cute name for friends, set it up as a separate box in your new system. YOUR OLD EMAIL Check it occasionally at first and forward anything important to your new address. After a while you can forget you even have that address. Stop sending anything from that address, but don't close it Send a change of address to the people you care about. Export/Import a copy of your address book to your new address
YOUR NEW MAIL Set up several boxes; a sorting system. These will be used for both your personal email and for business, but each should have a separate mailbox. name@newserver.com businessname@newserver.com IF YOU HAVE A WEBSITE Go to your host (ie. GoDaddy or?) to set up your mailboxes. Here you establish boxes with your company name. All your business correspondence should come here and marketing efforts should reflect these addresses so you get your company name out there. yourname@yourcompany.com info@yourcompany.com other catagories? These three systems will let the world know who you are, both your personal name and your business identity, and also what you do and where to find you. Having multiple boxes will also work like files so you will know where to look when you need specific information. |
