MUSINGS... Help, I'm being held captive. I have been trapped in the clutches of the computer gods for quite some time now. And they have a very firm grip.
First my MAC crashed. I just stared at it in amazement because that is not supposed to happen. I've been working on a MAC for over 20 years and never had a problem before. I can still boot up my first MAC; it's still running strong.The repair was going to cost me hundreds of dollars. In a tizzy I decided to check out eBay. Lo and behold, I found a replacement computer (exact same model) for $30. I ignored the depreciation and ordered it.
It then took a couple of months to find a friend who could rescue my old files and transfer them to the new computer. In the meantime, I switched my work to my laptop. Not as easy to use, but it would do the job.
THEN, while installing more memory in the PC because the mice were too small for the volume of work I was asking to do, CRASH!. The motherboard was gone.
My MAC wasn't ready yet so I had to suffer the DT's for a couple of days. I jumped in to get my MAC back up and running; except I was unable to recover some very important files. Frustration was setting in. I did what I could while I waited for my new replacement PC to arrive.
I have spent all of today installing programs on my new PC. Windows 7 (which is far better than Vista) deleted everything so I had to start all over again. There are still more to install and I'm waiting for my back-up to restore lost files.
I know I will be elated when this project(s) gets done; in the meantime the gods have me in their grip and they aren't anxious to let go.

Your Money-New Credit Card Laws
Finally, a government program that is designed to help all consumers; not just the rich or poor. There are eight new credit card rules that affect you and your family's budget.
If your bank increases your interest rate, as a penalty, they will be required to reverse it if you pay as agreed for 6 months. Additionally, universal default has been eliminated. A card issuer cannot raise your rate based on activity on other accounts.
There are new restrictions on marketing to students, fee restrictions, and payments will be applied to the part of the account with the highest interest rate. The best news for many of us is that your gift cards will not expire for 5 years and you can't be charged fees unless you don't use the card for a year. |
