As I begin the radio show this month, I am reminded of how much we all have to learn about relationships, couple's communication skills, parenting and stepfamily life!
While it is quite a lot, information is being made available -- so enjoy the process of learning. It can only enhance the quality of your life! |

Susan Swanson on Step Schedule of Shows
Susan Swanson on Step airs live every Tuesday from 11:00 - 11:50 a.m., and will feature topics related to stepfamily life and guests who are experts in the field of stepfamilies.
Upcoming topics include:
Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009: Tricia Powe, host of StepFamily StraightTalk, will discuss the importance of mediation in the stepfamily system.
Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009: Susan Wisdom, author of Stepcoupling. Wisdom coined the term stepcoupling in her 2002 book, which I consider one of the essentials. She will be on to talk about what issues stepcouples face and the journey they go on when they are on the path of stepfamily life.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009: Learning about being a stepcouple. If you missed the premiere show, or any other shows (like last week's special guest Wednesday Martin, author of StepMonster: A New Look at Why Real Stepmothers Think, Feel and Act the Way We Do), you can find an archive of previous shows here. On this page you will also find the most up-to-date schedule of topics and guests.
We hope you tune in for tips and advice on how to navigate your own stepfamily. We want this show to help you, so please submit any questions you'd like answered or topics you'd like discussed to leslie@stepfamilycenter.com. |
The Myths of Stepfamilies:
What Every Therapist Should Know
Read Susan's cover story, " The Myths of Stepfamilies: What Every Therapist Should Know," in the September 2009 issue of Clinical Update, published by the California Society for Clinical Social Work. Six myths of stepfamily life are discussed, including the myths that transitioning into a stepfamily will be easy and that a stepparent will instantly love his or her stepchildren. The insider/outsider phenomenon that often occurs in stepfamilies is also discussed in the article. | |
