2010 Tollway Construction Season |
2010 Tollway Construction Season Begins
With approximately 80 percent of the Congestion-Relief Program - Open Roads for a Faster Future - complete, the Illinois Tollway has new, wider roads. You'll find newly completed sections on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80), Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). With the new construction season underway, the Tollway's work for 2010 shifts focus to repair and maintenance projects.

What's Happening
Construction began in April to repair and resurface the one-mile section between 83rd Street and 75th Street, as well as the 10 miles between Ogden Avenue and Army Trail Road. As part of the project, 24 bridges in these sections will be rehabilitated. Construction will be completed by the end of 2010. This is the first major maintenance work on this 20-year-old roadway.
What it Means to Travelers Three lanes will remain open during peak times. However, drivers headed north onto the Eisenhower (I-290/IL Route 53) will see a reduction in lanes as the Illinois Department of Transportation begins the resurfacing project on their roadway this year.

What's Happening Advance work will begin in June on the Edens Spur (I-94) to relocate utilities in preparation for roadwork this summer. This project will repair and resurface five miles of 50-year-old mainline pavement and rehabilitate bridges carrying the Spur over local roads and railroads. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by the end of 2010.
What it Means to Travelers Advance work will have little impact on traffic. When construction begins later this summer, one lane will be closed in each direction. Delays are expected.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tax Bills |
Q: Home values have been declining, so why is my bill higher? A: There are several factors that could make your tax bill increase: an increase in the property equalized assessed value, an increase in tax rates, which come from the individual taxing districts and new referendums approved by voters. Keep in mind, the assessment for your current bill is calculated as of January 2009.
Q: Will partial payments be accepted once the bills have been sent out?
A: Yes, partial payments can be made by mail or at the Treasurer's Office, with the understanding that the remaining balances due after the due dates could be subject to interest.
Q: What if, for some reason, I am altogether unable to pay my taxes? Will I lose my property? A: According to Illinois State Statue, the County Treasurer must hold an annual tax sale to sell unpaid property taxes, drainage and special assessments. Please remember that the county is not selling the property at the sale, but rather, the unpaid taxes. The homeowner has at least two years to pay the redemption. It should be noted that the longer the homeowner waits to redeem these taxes, the more the interest could be.
