Forest Preserve Land Acquisition

PineDunesThe Lake County Forest Preserves' Board of Commissioners approved a land purchase at their March 16 meeting that expands Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Antioch to approximately 281 acres.

The Board approved purchasing a 28-acre addition (Keating property) to Pine Dunes. This parcel of land provides additional frontage on Edwards Road and borders Pine Dunes on the north and east. The existing oak grove habitat at Pine Dunes extends into this new property. It also features rolling topography and a mixture of woodlands and wetlands.

The Pine Dunes land buy meets continuing land acquisition goals to preserve more open space, protect and restore wildlife habitat, create new trails and improve public access to new and existing preserves.

Have You Sent Back Your Census Information?

I received a call from the Census Bureau and they are very concerned that Lake County residents are not returning their Census forms.  I explained to the man that it was frustrating to see money spent on a letter telling us the Census was coming,  receiving the Census and then a postcard telling us we had received the Census.  To top it off, we see  multiple commercials on television.  He said they are getting complaints about that, but  still are not receiving the completed Census forms back. He told me If they don't get the information returned,  they will be paying for field workers to knock on doors.

The United States Constitution requires a Census of the population of the United States every ten years.  The Census applies to all residents of Lake County, citizens and non-citizens alike. The Census population determines which states gain or lose representation in Congress. It also helps determine the amount of federal funding that will go to Lake County and its municipalities during the next decade.
