3.  Roundabout Improvement

On February 25, 2010 the Lake County Division of Transportation held a public meeting regarding the Phase I study that is underway for intersection improvements at Fairfield Road and IL Rte 176.  Information regarding existing conditions and three alternative improvements that were presented at the open house can be found at the following web address:   www.lakecountyil.gov/transportation/fairfield176.htm

The Division of Transportation is interested in receiving public input and comments regarding the intersection and the surrounding area by March 12, 2010 so that the consultants can begin enhancing and improving the alternatives by addressing the interests and concerns that are identified.  Please provide public input by clicking on the "
comment form".

Monaville Road and Cedar Lake Road

We were fortunate to compete for, and receive, special federal funds (with a 20% local match) to improve the intersection at Monaville Rd/Cedar Lake Rd.  These funds were awarded to remove the traffic bottleneck at that 4-way stop intersection to clean up the air.  Our project manager is Chuck Gleason at 847-377-7447.  The construction is currently targeted for 2012.  The highway approval process is a long one,  see our web at:  http://oldapps.lakecountyil.gov/elibrary/publications/dot/elements_design.pdf

I don't know if you travel much in Wisconsin but a roundabout will be constructed such as are appearing all over Wisconsin.  These are neat little intersections which move traffic but are safer than traditional signalized intersections.   This summer will see the first one in Lake County on our intersection of Riverwoods and Everett Rd in Lincolnshire.  Want to look at web sites on roundabouts see:

We do not have any funding right now for Monaville Rd/Fairfield Rd intersection but I am sure we will apply again for the special federal funds for air quality I mentioned.

What is PASSAGE?

The backbone of PASSAGEis a fiber optic network along county, state, and Tollway roads which provides for data flow between PASSAGE elements. Elements like: real-time video, traffic signal controller data, Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) messages, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) data and web based information. The operators at the Transportation Management Center (TMC) use the network to manage all of the elements of PASSAGE.

Currently 85 miles long, originating from the Transportation Management Center in Libertyville, this fiber optic network connects approximately 150 traffic signals in Lake County. Planned expansion over the next few years will connect an additional 80 miles of fiber optic cable and over 200 signals to the PASSAGE network.
