Phi Home Designs:
What We Do

Downeast Kitchen
Polliti Kit
Taking cues from the Arts & Crafts style, Belfast architect Dominic Mercadante designed this elegant kitchen to nestle into a coastal home in Gouldsboro. The frame & panel doors feature incremental steps from stile to rail, rail to panel and from door to beaded opening giving an overall richness of visual depth. The vertical grain Douglas Fir warms the room and welcomes you into the space. Integrated appliances, matching pot-rack, bronze hardware and granite countertops complete this magnificent workspace.

If you happen to walk through the Phi shop during break-time or lunch you are sure to hear the hearty laughter of Orion Boshes. After leaving a career in computer programming in Massachusetts, Orion threw himself into woodworking, attending the Nine Month Comprehensive Course at the Center For Furniture Craftsmanship here in Rockport. Orion joined the Phi team as a cabinet maker in 2004. Since then he has become an integral piece of the Phi landscape, crafting beautiful cabinetry and furniture in the shop and even developing and maintaining our computer network and infrastructure here in the office. Orion and his wife Jen live in Rockland; they own and operate the Beauty Mark Spa in Camden.

January Newsletter
Happy New Year!

Welcome to our first ever newsletter! In the months to come, we plan to send these out as a way to stay connected to our clients, vendors, subcontractors and our friends. We are hoping that it will provide an environment for us to discuss what Phi brings to the table, profile some of our fellow tradespeople, introduce you to Phi employees, and showcase some of our projects. We welcome any feedback from you and encourage an engaged dialogue.

2008 saw many wonderful projects flow through Phi. We have had the good fortune to be involved in some of the Mid-Coast's most esteemed and creative building ventures; beautifully unique Asian influenced furniture, exquisite custom Greene & Greene inspired cabinets, an understated bungalow garage, and a detail rich Victorian renovation. We have been lucky enough to have served some of the most gracious and enthusiastic clients, collaborated with Maine's best architects and interior designers, and worked with some of the area's most gifted subcontractors. Thanks to each and every one of you for making 2008 such a rewarding year.

We at Phi know the realities of today's economy and the hurdles we all face, but by working together we are hopeful for a prosperous new year for all of us and a continuation of the creative and inspiring work that we do. We look forward to 2009 and the projects, relationships and challenges that it holds in store.

Victorian Transformation
villa
The "yellow house" on the corner of Route 90 and Route 1 had one heck of a 2008. Phi undertook the not so small task of renovating this ailing structure into an enchanting retail space for the local winery, Cellardoor Vineyard.

Now known as "Cellardoor at the Villa" the building boasts a completely overhauled exterior with a few new elements, such as a new roof, a glass conservatory and salvaged architectural pieces from an historic Victorian home formerly located on the Bowdoin College campus. Giving the finished touch to the outside is the remarkable landscaping and stonework, tasteful signage and the new, refreshing hue of yellow. Inside, patrons are greeted by walnut floors, tasting bar and an exquisite curved staircase as well as stunning wall papers, drapery and chandeliers.

Open to the public, please stop by in person to experience this wonderful building, and while you are there don't forget to stock up on some tasty Maine wine and goodies. Many hands, heads and hearts were involved in this project and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude, cheers.

MER HSWell, there you have it, the inaugural edition of the Phi Newsletter - hope you enjoyed it. On behalf of all of us at Phi, have a healthy and prosperous new year.

Sincerely,

Michael

Letterboard:

"The justifiable pride that everyone must have who contributes to that work of art is the aspect of your operation that is most appealing. Craftsmanship in building is how you all will be remembered; craftsmanship at a time when too many builders are building objects, not homes, not works of art capable of inspiring others long after they are built."
