Memo from the Dean:

Students at the University's professional schools, like the School of Business, receive extra amenities and opportunities to better their education through the use of course fees. The fees, although they are in addition to students' general tuition, provide them with the chances to excel through avenues other academic programs don't have.

A recent university-wide review of these fees states they are used to significantly better students' educations.

The School, which began these course fees in 2004, has used students' money judiciously for a wide range of benefits for students.

We have added five new majors since 2004, and more than 1,600 students have graduate with degrees from these majors.

We have given students a variety of ways to learn outside the classroom, such as our "Jayhawks on Wall Street" and "Xplore" programs that give students the opportunity to meet with business executives and helpful alumni across the nation.

Other opportunities are available for students. In 2010, $929,000 in course fees was paid directly to more than 200 business students through scholarships and to almost 250 students employed in the School.

These are just a few examples of what course fees have done for the School's students. I'm proud of these accomplishments and look forward to more in the future.

Student & Academic Services

Hello from the Student & Academic Services Office. We are in the midst of our main advising period, and we are currently seeing students to work on their spring course schedule. Every admitted business student has an advising "hold" each semester, making it mandatory that they come to our office and meet with an advisor before the hold is removed. We are more than happy to meet with pre-business students in our office, as well. If your student needs to schedule an appointment, please have them contact our office at (785) 864-7500.

This is a good time for your student to schedule an appointment with us to develop and map out an extensive plan for your student's graduation. We can also help you student plan for internships, study abroad trips, and second majors, minors, or concentrations. It is important to make sure students stay on track to graduate within four years, because the University's four-year tuition compact requires that. Extensive planning can help achieve that. Call our office to schedule an appointment. Read more >>

Supply Chain Management

The newest major offered by the KU School of Business is the supply chain management degree. While this is not an area of business many students or parents are aware of, it has definitely caught the eye of employers in the Midwest. Since the major was introduced, we have had employers such as American Airlines, Farmland Foods, BNSF Railroad, Payless ShoeSource, Hallmark, Bushnell, Ericsson, and others come to campus to recruit SCM students. With such a wide variety of companies and industries interested in SCM, students have flexibility when it comes to their career options.

There are a wide variety of positions to choose from within the scope of SCM, including supplier relations, contract management, demand forecasting, logistics and warehousing. This wide range of opportunities helps attract students from all backgrounds and interests. Annual starting salaries for these positions are competitive with other majors at the School and average about $44,000. With such strong employer demand, we are excited to see more students pursue the SCM major.
