Message from Carolena
Welcome Summer! Here at FCBD, Inc. we've just come off the high of Devotion-The Home. We feel like we have finally found our home at the Julia Morgan Theater in Berkeley, CA. It was an amazing production, and we will have it on DVD for you soon.
... The Tribal Spirit CD is out now! We are very excited about this unique collaboration with Helm and Phil Thornton. ... We have two workshops in addition to our regular classes: Persian classical dance with guest artist Miriam Peretz and a sword and basket balancing class with FCBD dancer Suzanne Elliott. ...
We are going to try Tannourine Restaurant on Friday in July. Come see us in San Mateo, it's a great show (and there's plenty of parking!)
...
I'll be off traveling again for the month of July; Pennsylvania, New York, Brussels and Germany. Look
here for dates and times.
See you in August!
Enjoy!

Summer Special
Persian Dance Workshop
with Miriam Peretz
July 11 - August 1
Mondays 8:15 - 9:45pm
11 Jul - 1 Aug (4 week session)
Mondays 8:15-9:45pm

This four week series will focus on the art of Persian Classical dance. Characteristic movements include intricate hand and arm work, languid sweeping gestures, footwork patterns and numerous types of spins. Common themes in this dance form inspired by the great Persian poets- Hafez, Rumi, and Omar Khayyam include the moth to the flame, intoxication with love for the beloved, or a bird spreading it's wings to fly to freedom. The workshop will also give samples of other styles of other Central Asian dance forms, such as Persian folk styles, and Afghani dance.
Instructor, Miriam Peretz
is an internationally acclaimed performing artist and instructor specializing in dances from the Silk Road (Persia & Central Asia,) and the Middle-East. She has been performing and teaching classes and workshops both in the U.S. and abroad for the past fifteen years. Miriam has been a principle dancer with Inbal Ethnic Dance Theater Company in Tel Aviv, and is currently assistant artistic director and principle dancer of Ballet Afsaneh. Miriam is noted to be an exceptionally dynamic, inspiring and innovative instructor, as she infuses traditional forms with contemporary and sacred dance elements.

NEW CD from FatChanceBellyDance!

Tribal Spirit - An Inspired collaboration with Helm and Phil Thornton
The seeds for this project began with Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance having the idea of bringing together Helm's expertise in acoustic, folkloric music and Phil's distinctive world fusion sound to create something really unique. The concept opened the way to explore the many facets of Tribal Spirit throughout the world. Helm traveled to Rajasthan in India and, with the contacts of Colleena Shakti, was able to record with musicians from the Sindh desert. Helm twice stopped by Phil's studio, Expandibubble, in the UK to brainstorm and record as well. Phil's personal contributions are a result of his travels to Egypt and the USA, hearing soundscapes within cacaphonies.
This flexible format enabled Helm to record many songs that we've performed for years and to tap into the vast SF Bay Area network of musicians, including Dan Cantrell, Djordje Stijepovic, Robin Petrie, and Aryeh Frankfurter. With Phil, we were able to explore very different realms for us. The end result is just what Carolena envisioned: a very unique collaboration.
13 tracks, $16.
