Treat the Kids to a Day with the Speedster
That's the question many people are asking these days. From GM to Bank of America to, well, to your local classic car rental company. Not so sure about the first two, but Classic Cars and Byways is doing quite well, thank you. If fun factored into the bottom line, we'd be one helluva profitable company -- just take a look at the girls above helping their dad celebrate his 45th birthday. Using more hard-nosed metrics, we had two customers even before the season began on May 1 and we're three-fourths booked for May and June. There are plenty of weekends free for the rest of the summer, but don't hesitate to call or send an email to make your reservation!
No promises yet, but we are seriously searching for a car to add to the "fleet." Many, many visitors to our site have voted for their favorites, with the top three vote-getters being the MGA, Austin-Healy and Mustang. We're aiming to first add a mid-60s Mustang convertible. With an automatic and four seats, it will offer a nice alternative to the Speedster. It'll be a great car for two couples to share for a weekend or vacation and wonderful for weddings as well. If you're interested call or email and we will update you on our progress.
Weddings are becoming a rewarding part of our business. We had the chance recently to participate in a bridal event hosted by
Guilded Boston. Definitely our first such experience, and not your typical bridal show from what I'm told. It was set up like an actual wedding with the "brides" and "grooms" modeling fashions as they mixed and mingled with the crowd. Personally, I think the Speedster added a unique touch as well.

This photo is by David Lee from
Allegro Photography, who clearly does great work. You can see some more shots on his blog. If you or someone you know is wedding planning we offer a unique and stylish alternative to the traditional limousine. For some pictures from an actual wedding the Speedster attended, check out
Brian Phillips blog (which also includes a video clip of the Speedster) - fun stuff!
Classic CarsSpeaking of General Motors (and Nash, Studebaker and Ford) the
Larz Anderson Auto Museum this week opened its new exhibit, The Style and Innovation of the American Automobile. A timely topic, since we're all wondering just what kind of American auto industry will emerge over the next couple of years. The exhibit looks back at the last 80 years, highlighting some of Detroit's most elegant designs and amazing technological breakthroughs -- did you know the retractable hardtop dates back to 1934? There are some truly iconic cars on display, including an early Corvette "fuelie" provided by noted collector Arturo Gutierrez, who I interviewed for the January newsletter. In addition, there is an extensive video history of American automobiling, narrated by Brock Yates. Definitely worth a visit -- the Museum richly deserves your support.
And BywaysThe
Coastal Wine Trail is one of our most popular getaways. It combines tremendous driving roads, beautiful scenery and delicious tastings - and it's a lot closer to Boston than we sometimes think. Early June should be a wonderful time to visit, so put June 7 on your calendar. From 1pm to 3pm on that Sunday, the Wine Trail will have its second annual Kick-off at Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton, RI.
All eight members of the Coastal Wine Trail will be represented offering tastings of their locally grown and produced wines. Local farmers, cheese makers and more will hand out delicious samples for guests to taste. This walk around sampling will take place under a tent, rain or shine. Enjoy the pristine grounds while experiencing the best of what Southern New England has to offer.
Remember - if you're looking for a fun event to attend, check our email archive for the March newsletter that has links to nearly 50 events from now through the fall.
Have FUN out there!
