Dear    ,

Well, it's late November and the Speedster is pretty much tucked away for the winter, so our attention turns to...

Classic Cars and Byways - New England

Expanding the fleet
We've been getting about 20 suggestions a week about which cars we should add for next summer. So far, the MGA and Austin-Healey are running neck-and-neck, with a few determined proponents of the TR-4 and Alfa Romeo. It's a tough decision that requires balancing appeal with reliability and affordability. The good thing is, an excellent example of any of these cars is sure to give you a fun, stylish experience. Stay tuned you'll know as soon as we do about new options for next year.

Thanking customers for our inaugural season
We've had a blast! Thanks so much to our birthday celebrants, our wedding couples, our "try before you buy" drivers, and our filmmakers. We're pretty sure you all had a blast, too!

Speedster Sightings
Spotted on the cover of the September issue of Newton and Brookline magazines - our very own Speedster. Inside - a very nice article on how the company started and our dreams for the future. Read the full article at our website.
Seen elsewhere -- not our Speedster, but if you're looking for some films to add to your queue consider these. All have value in their own right, but, most important, all include supporting actor roles for Speedsters!
A Time to Kill (1996)
An adaptation of the John Grisham novel, and a consummate example of courtroom drama. Sandra Bullock may not be totally convincing as a law student who joins the defense team, but her dark green Speedster (built by Vintage Speedsters, as is ours) certainly sets her apart from the residents of fictional Canton, Mississippi.
Harper (1966)
Sadly, we lost Paul Newman this fall. Beyond his extensive acting career, Newman was an inspirational entrepreneur and philanthropist. His "Hole in the Wall Gang" camps provide fun and growth experiences for over 13,000 kids with serious illnesses. In Harper Newman plays a classic wisecracking private detective, based on Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer. His Speedster, done up in battleship gray and rust primer, fits the "I don't give a damn" attitude perfectly. Speedsters then weren't always the jewel boxes they are now!
Top Gun (1986)
Nothing in this movie can compete with the aerial scenes of fighters screaming by each at Mach 2 closing speeds or of the carrier launches and landings. But, a very nice black Speedster (also by Vintage) takes (almost) center stage in a key scene - when Kelly McGillis, behind the Speedster wheel, chases down Tom Cruise on his motorcycle and, well, professes her love. What happens next is predictable to say the least!

Classic Cars ...
What are your favorite classic car TV shows? Everyone seems to love Top Gear on cable channel BBC America, but I've quickly become a fan of Chasing Classic Cars on HD Theater.
Chasing Classic Cars follows Wayne Carini, based right down the road in Portland, Connecticut, as he goes on his personal mission to uncover great cars and secret collections. During each episode, Carini searches out classic, mostly sports cars, to purchase and bring to his shop, where each car is restored to its original specs and then sold at auction. It's good fun, and you can get some helpful insights into the car collector, broker, auction and restoration businesses. One episode I caught featured Carini's work on behalf of Herb Chambers, hunting down a Ferrari Daytona that Chambers had owned decades earlier. It includes fun sequences of flying off to Denver in Chambers' personal jet, and strolling around his impressive garage.
"Top Gear" takes extraordinary and ordinary cars to the limit and beyond to find out if they're half as good as their manufacturers claim. Full of extreme stunts, challenges, celebrity appearances and weekly features, "Top Gear" is not your normal car show. For example, season six include matching a Range Rover against a tank, a race from London to Norway, an attempt to outrun Irish Army snipers in convertibles and a countdown of the greatest driving songs of all time. What really makes the show, though, is the sharp wit of hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May that really make the show. Good fun!

And Byways
Have you visited Tower Hill Botanic Garden? It's a beautiful hilltop spot in Boylston, less than an hour from Boston, and the home of the Worcester County Horticultural Society. Tower Hill is a wonderful place to visit any time of year, but during the holiday season, it's especially magical. "Holly Days" runs from November 28 through January 4. This year's theme is "Holiday Getaways!" You'll enjoy countless ornaments reflecting themes and characters inspired by holiday dream destinations. There will be magnificently decorated trees, wreaths, and swags adorned with gleaming lights and exquisitely hand-crafted natural ornaments, making use of materials such as dried flowers, leaves, seeds, seed-heads, cones, branches, and fruits. On weekends you can enjoy live music from a selection of talented artists, youth activities, holiday workshops, storytelling, and garden tours. Check it out!

Happy Thanksgiving!
