Dear ,
Here's the latest from Classic Cars and Byways.
Another great time in the Speedster! Joan has been buying birthday presents for her husband Dan for quite awhile. This year's present may have been one of the most unusual, as the Marblehead couple "felt the years melt away" in the company of our wonderful Speedster. The owner of an original back in the day, Dan can testify to the fun factor - "it's definitely a Speedster drive!"
Speedster Sightings
On Thursday, September 18, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., the Speedster will share the stage with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's Audi R8 at an Audi A4 launch party. The event is hosted by Audi dealer Prime Motor Group at 420 Providence Highway in Westwood. Stop by!
Classic Cars...
A couple of fun events coming up this month for folks who enjoy watching vintage autos run, or just like to soak in the artistry and beauty of a classic car. Next weekend, September 13 and 14, is the date for a truly unique New England tradition -- the historic "Climb to the Clouds" on the Mt. Washington Auto Road in New Hampshire's White Mountains. Amazingly, this race was first held in July 1904. It is one of America's oldest motorsports events, even pre-dating the Indianapolis 500 (first held in 1911). The full hillclimb was last run in 2001, two years after the record-setting top speed of 113 mph was recorded. If you've driven the Auto Road, you know how incredible (and scary!) that is. The hillclimb was revived in the centennial year as a vintage event, with vehicles from the race's 100-year history competing along with other cars of noteworthy race and automotive history. Closer to Boston, and likely more sedate, you might enjoy the 14th annual Weston Antique and Classic Car Show on Saturday, September 27 in Weston center. Last year the show had over 260 cars ranging from Classic Muscle Cars to Micro Messerschmidts to a custom "turtle mobile." This year the show is expecting a flock of race cars from Sprint cars to Indy cars as well as Ferraris, Mercedes Benz, Jaguars, Rolls' and Chevrolets, Studebakers, Fords, and everything in between. Should be fun!
and Byways
On the same weekend (September 25-28) down in Newport you can enjoy an extravaganza of wine and food at the 3rd annual Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival. Among the chefs who will be preparing and sharing specialties are Ming Tsai, host of public television's Simply Ming, Gloria Maroti Frazee of Wine Spectator, Mary Ann Esposito, host of PBS' Ciao Italia, and Roseann Tully of Intermezzo Magazine. They'll join more than 150 vintners for a remarkable wine and food experience in what is certainly a most beautiful and historic destination. Would it be cool to show up in the Speedster, or what?! Looking for a different destination on a Sunday afternoon? A great place for a picnic? Try the weekly polo match at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton. We drove the Speedster up for a Porsche club gathering and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gates open at 1:30; the match starts at 3:00 p.m.. Catch a glimpse into an unique sport and lifestyle for only $10 per person! The season this year goes through October 5.
Have FUN out there! |
