Protect Rivers and Wetlands: Vote Yes on 5934.
Dear Planning & Development Committee Members -
There is a particularly important vote in your committee on Monday, May 4. Please vote yes on HB 5934,
An Act Concerning Training Requirements for Inland Wetlands
Commission Members and Preserving Natural Vegetation near Wetlands and
Watercourses (File No. 492).
Why You Should Vote YES on HB 5934
- The
cheapest and most effective protection for the state's water resources is to leave natural vegetation in place.
- This
bill encourages wetlands commissioners to leave as much natural vegetation
as is practicable within 100 feet of wetlands or watercourses.
- This
bill has no prohibitions, but sets a goal.
Although the current language contains some flaws, the environmental community is solidly behind this bill. Interested parties are working to develop
the best possible language for the long term.
