CTLCV's Watchlist - Updated and Online!
Greetings!
This email is to provide you with the latest update on
environmental legislation. The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Watchlist is updated and online at www.ctlcv.org/watchlist.
In particular, we would like to call your
attention to several specific bills. At least four major bills
threaten existing environmental protections.
-
747 - exempts Oxford Airport expansion from the CT
Environmental Policy Act.
-
6637 - exempts boat hull washing in marinas from the Clean
Water Act
-
5467 - allows school construction in a flood plain without
approval from the DEP.
-
Emergency Certification - draft language includes several
problems, including a possible automatic approval of projects and a confusing
certification process. Environmental advocates are working with the
governor's office and legislative leadership on protective changes.
We are highly concerned that the laudable and much-needed effort
to move stimulus projects may incidentally dismantle environmental protections
in Connecticut. Voters want economic well-being, but also expect legislators to
make policy decisions that guard the long-term health of our state.
We call on you, our environmental leaders and friends
of smart policy, to support both good stimulus projects and existing
environmental protections. Meanwhile we thank you for your good
work on solar power, green buildings, and other pro-environment bills. The broader list of bills that are being tracked by
environmental leaders can be viewed on our watchlist at www.ctlcv.org/watchlist. Please check this list for updates and contact us if you have questions or
concerns.
