KEEP THE CLEAN
ENERGY FUNDS! A proven record
of producing economic benefits & clean energy
The proposed cuts
would set us back years:
-
Renewable energy
investment fund -$10,000,000
-
Energy conservation
fund
-$6,000,000
HERE ARE THE FACTS:
The energy
efficiency and clean energy funds support good jobs and economic growth and
recovery!-
The funds support
well over 1000 CT non-utility, private sector jobs
-
2007 energy
efficiency investments directly saved CT households and businesses $257 million
annually. These benefits are multiplied
several times across our CT economy.
-
1200 Connecticut homes
saved up to 40% of their energy costs last year by participating in the Home
Energy Solutions program financed by the funds - freeing up $$$$$ to buy other goods and services across the CT economy
-
In 2007, 1480 low
income households saved $$ from the weatherization
program supported by this fund.
-
3,458 small to
medium commercial and industrial businesses saved $$ and energy due to energy
efficiency programs provided during 2007 alone.
-
The funds support our CT fuel cell manufacturing industry, creating an energy efficiency and
solar green energy industry that depends on this support.
These funds are effectively saving energy, cleaning the
air and fighting global warming! These funds have:
-
Received national awards
- Saved or produced
enough clean energy over the last decade to power 45,000 households;
-
Financed 300 renewable energy projects across the state - including solar
electric and fuel cell installations;
-
In 2007, slashed global warming pollution (CO2) by 2.6 million tons;
-
Slashed smog producing pollutants by hundreds of tons each year, and
reduced highly toxic mercury pollution by several tons each year.
Demand on these
funds by CT businesses and residents is skyrocketing!
-
Residential demand
for solar electric installations increased 200% in 2007
-
Solar electric
demand by businesses and schools increased 300% in 2007
-
The comprehensive
Home Energy Solutions program for residents is over-booked with virtually no
marketing;
- In December '08, the
Clean Energy Fund had to place applications for commercial solar installation
subsidies on hold indefinitely due to excess demand.
-
Due to excess
demand, about a third of the 2009 energy efficiency budget is already spent
before the year begins.
