MAY 2011 AUDITIONS Our Professional Training program, dedicated to creating Odissi dancers in North America and beyond, launched it's pilot program in October 2010 and is directed by Smt. Leena Mohanty. The training program, spanning 8 months per year (October - June) consists of monthly intensives and weekly classes and has 2 divisions: Professional (3 years) and Pre-professional (1 year with a strong background in dance). Our program is filled with 100% enthusiasm, dedication and discipline. We are auditioning dancers for our 2011-2012 program in MAY 2011 To learn more click here .

Workshop in Indian Contemporary Dance with Parijat Desai Thursdays: 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14 8:00-9:30 pm Parijat Desai invites performers from all dance backgrounds to train in fundamentals of postmodern dance, as well as stylistic elements of classical bharata natyam. Floor and standing exercises will explore principles of weight, sequencing, momentum, length and balance. We'll also learn phrases that blend Indian classical postures, gesture and rhythms with the full-bodied movement of contemporary dance. (Dance experience required.)

Contemp Natyam: Saturday, May 7th 5 p.m. & 7 p.m. DAKSHINA PALLI INC./ THE SCHOOL presents Contemp Natyam (Third In A Series)- Choreography by Founding/Artistic Director: Jaan R. Freeman. An aesthetic merger of east and west drawing from the bharata natyam (South Indian Classical Dance) and modern dance movement vocabulary. The program features the world premiere of Jaan R. Freeman's “The Best of 1964” and “Mediterranean Band”. The program will also feature the revival of “Folk Songs of Sri Lanka” (2006) and “OLI” ,(2006) with live vocals and tabla by Emiliano Valerio to a score by Sri. Badal Roy.“Contemp-Natyam is sure a trend setter.”
