A quick buzz...
Greetings from Bonnie and all of us at Beier's. Are you enjoying your fall weather?

Winterizing Your Perennial Garden
A couple quick things you can do this afternoon

Winterizing is very important in our climate to prevent winterkill. Your perennials will make it through the winter with flying colors if you take a few minutes to take care of them soon.

  1. Keep your plants well watered until the ground freezes.
  2. Mulch your plants when the ground starts to freeze. If you mulch too early, rodents will find your bed a wonderful winter buffet. Some of the best mulching choices are dry leaves and light straw. Just pile this over your plants to a depth of about 8 inches.
  3. Try not to cut perennials back too much in the fall. This helps keep the snow piled up and protects the crown of the plant from freezing. And, winter birds can eat the seeds.

See how easy that was? There's lots more you can do, so if you have specific questions, email us at beiersgreenhouse@beiersgreenhouse.com and we'll look into it. Thanks for reading!
Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
As many as you like!

Clean your pumpkin seeds thoroughly and soak them in a salt water brine (3 tablespoons salt per quart of water) for 24 hours in the refrigerator. Drain. Spread the seeds out on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Sprinkle with seasoned salt. Place in a 350 degree oven. Stir every 20 minutes until they're dry and crunchy. It might take an hour to dry, so keep tasting!
