Drum Roll Please...
The winners of our Beautiful Garden Contest |
It wasn't easy, but our customers voted Tuesday on the top three most beautiful gardens among all the entrants. Here are the winners: First Prize and a $100 Beier's Gift Certificate goes to... Nancy Wheeler of Bovey
Second Prize and a $50 Beier's Gift Certificate goes to... Janet Christensen of Deer River
Third Prize and a $25 Beier's Gift Certificate goes to... Mia Stockey of Grand Rapids
Thank you to the 20 people who shared their beautiful gardens with all of us. The photos were awesome, and we got lots of great ideas! We hope to share some of those photos on our website and in our email newsletters, for those who missed them. They're really wonderful. Start thinking about next year's contest now, and snap some great shots of your gardens. We're already thinking about how to make the contest even better.... |
"Perennial Party" Was a Success!
Wow, did we learn a lot...
|
Can't download all the details we were blessed with yesterday, but here's a taste:
Did you know that your plants can get a sunburn as early as March, depending on the weather?
Here's a recipe for you: Mix 1 cup of milk, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of oil, and 2 tablespoons of dish soap (NOT anti-bacterial) in the blender. Blend thoroughly. Spray on your plants to repel deer.
Thinning individual plants helps prevent rot and mildew. Lady's mantle, bugleweed, Bethlehem sage, beebalm, garden phlox, and lamb's ear should all be thinned to promote air circulation.
PLUS, Gloria taught us how to make sandcasts from large leaves such as rhubarb. She left some wonderful pieces behind, so drop in to look at these unique examples of "true" garden art.
If you couldn't make it to the classes, that's OK, because we'll share some of the information our presenters gave us through our emails and on the website. Stay tuned!
