Consignment News

Consignment update:

Pls note: We are not able to take any size 4, 10 or 14 for children.
We DO need more very cool, Abercrombie/Hollister-type stuff for the 16/18/20 boys and young men, and for the junior-size girls.
Last call -for real this time!  :)  for Halloween.
We havew extended the deadline for accepting Halloween items to Saturday, Oct 3.

Hint: This season we have been very busy and the consignment lines have sometimes taken over an hour.  We apologize for the times that the wait is so long, but do not have the space to keep your left-overs (the items we did not accept) so we really need you to either wait or you can come back and get them before we close, on the same day.  Thank you for your understanding.  We do know that we need to open another shop (or two) but we have to do the best we can with the space we currently have, for this season.  :)  Thank you, also, for helping us to make Mother & Child such a great place!
Please remember that it is always best to call when you are on your way in order to confirm that we are able to take whatever it is that you have to consign. We do answer the telephone starting at 9AM.

We ask that you be sure of the following:
   1. all items have been freshly and thoroughly cleaned;
   2. you have not packed more than 30 items; and
   3. you have called, on the day you are coming, to confirm
that we can take more of what you have to bring.

It is especially important, at this time of year,
1.that you call before you leave the house to bring consignments,
to ask if we have room for more of what you want to bring.
           603 886 6727
(Consider putting our telephone number into your cell phone?
and/or ask us for a business card which shows our hours.)
We do answer the telephone starting at 9 AM.
2. that you look at , sort, and count your consignment items at home,
instead of trying to sort them in the aisles at Mother & Child.

We usually look through consignments:
  Mon 10 - 6:30
  Wed 10 - 6:30
  Fri 10 - 6:30
  Sat 10 - 6:30

We are accepting Fall/Winter items --for baby to teen and for pregnancy, and now for young adults-- that will be worn in October and November:

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what you will want to bring to us in September. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in a particular size.

  • Halloween costumes that are good quality and very clean.
  • Winter clothing and accessories
  • Winter jackets and heavier-weight hoodies

Regarding equipment and furniture:  please call ahead to confirm that we have room for more of what you have to sell.  (We do have to be sure that all equipment and furniture, that we sell, has not been recalled.  You may want to save yourself some time, by checking www.cpsc.gov before you pack the items in your car.)

Remember, we no longer have a consignment toy department.  (There were too many recall issues making it impossible for us to know what toys are and are not OK to sell.)

becca Get to know the Girls (and boy too)!!!!
We know you missed us but we have barely been able to take consignments let alone take interviews!   However, as the leaves change colors and the seasons change we realize that our staff has been changing just as much!  Because we have been so busy we have hired quite a few new members to our team, in attempts to keep up.   While they have been busy pricing clothes, ticketing, hanging or helping our customers in the store, we thought we would take a quick break to interview and introduce them all to you.  We still have some veterans to introduce you to but we thought we'd introduce some newbies as well!  We hope this helps you get to know them so please feel free to come introduce yourself to them!

Introducing: Becca Reid
Becca is one of the newest employees to join our team but we are already big fans.  She may not be our most talkative employee but she is one of our funniest.  Sarcastic and fun, she has a quick wit and some crazy stories we can barely believe. Although she is so thin she loves to eat and her favorite food is bacon!  She is also one of our most versatile employees.  Although ticketing clothing is her favorite thing to do, she can often be seen doing intakes, running the register or managing the dressing room.  Where ever she is she would love to talk to you!  Although it might take a bit to get this shy one talking, once you do you won't be sorry!  We love having Becca on the team and hope that she will be here for a long time.
Becca describes her style as preppy-surfer.  Like many of our customers she loves the Hollister brand, and if you ask us, she would prefer to live in California.  She loves being tan and wearing her skirts with flip-flops.  She also likes buying cool shirts for her dad, to make sure he stays in style.  Her favorite thing about shopping at Mother and Child is that she can get the great name brands, like Abercrombie and Hollister, at great prices, less than half the price!  She loves getting her Hollister jeans, sometimes over $80 new, for under $15 at the store!  She also loves browsing the new merchandise at the front for new jewelry too!
Where is your dream vacation?
Puerto Rico
Describe your perfect day.
A day at the beach with my friends and then a bonfire (See we told you she'd be a great Cali girl)
What is your advice to Mother and Child customers?
Come back weekly because there is always so much new merchandise coming in, especially now!
If you could live the life of any character who would it be?
Harry Potter
What is your advice to young girls?
Clean out your closets often
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
Because I was such a good swimmer, I was a qualified lifeguard at age 12.  I also hate wearing shoes and would prefer to be barefoot all the time.  I hate snakes, stink bugs and when people try to be something they are not.

Nashua Library presents Chris Bohjalian
The Friends of the Nashua Public Library will present "Beyond the Book: An Afternoon with Chris Bohjalian," at the Rivier College Dion Center on Sunday, October 25, at 2 p.m.
Bohjalian is the author of "Skeletons at the Feast," the selection for this year's seventh annual Nashua Reads: One City, One Book program. He will speak about how he came to write "Skeletons at the Feast," a novel based on the diary kept by a Prussian aristocrat during World War II. After the talk, the author will take questions from the audience.

Tickets cost $5 for the presentation and book signing. Attendance at the private reception, which supports the work of the Friends of the Library, is $25 and includes admission to the presentation and book signing. A private wine-and-cheese reception with the author, limited to 50 people, will be held before the presentation, at 1 p.m.
Tickets are available (cash or check only) at the Nashua Public Library, 1 World Trading Co.(111 Main Street, Nashua), or Beckonings (221 Main Street, Nashua). Tickets can also be ordered by mail; an order form is available at www.nashualibrary.org/nashuareads.htm. Toadstool Books will be on hand to sell copies of the author's books for signing.

Help the Rotary Club of Nashua raise money for community projects:
The Rotary Club of Nashua will launch its' first ever online Auction! Online bidding begins October10th, 2009 and runs until November 10th, 2009 at noon. The Rotary Club of Nashua is well known for its' charitable gifts to numerous organizations and causes in the greater Nashua area.  Just this past year, one hundred children were each matched with a Rotarian for an evening of holiday shopping.  Not only did the children receive $100 to purchase gifts for their family, but they spent an enjoyable evening with a "friend" from Rotary. Our club members are proud to drive by the new Rotary Common in the heart of down town Nashua. The club donated $100,000 toward the creation of this green space for Nashua. Each Thanksgiving our club members form a caravan to get out and deliver a complete Thanksgiving dinner to families who would not otherwise have a holiday meal. This year we sent our overseas service men and women care packages from home that brought many of them to tears of joy. We sponsored safe "Prom night" at the Nashua High schools, hosted a fishing derby for children with special needs,  provided two Nashua High School graduates with $10,000 college scholarships and gave over $45,000 to charitable organizations to support their work. If there is a need or a gap in services for the families in our community our Rotary will be there to lend a hand and ease the burden.
Your participation in this exciting Auction will not only make your holiday shopping easy, but you will be helping us to continue our 88 year history of service to the families in our Nashua community.  Look for more details in October.
