Consignment News

Consignment update for September:

It is especially important, at this time of year, that you call ahead before bringing consignments, to be sure we have room for more of what you want to bring.

We added adult clothing to our mix of
consignment product offerings.  yay!!
women

We have put out a call for in-style, adult clothing, amongst you, our newsletter readers.  As you are very well aware, we have limited space, so we are going to adhere to strict guidelines --from the get-go-- in order to narrow down the amount and the types of items that we will accept:
  • must be in-style (this means you bought it within the past 2 years OR you bought it 25+ years ago, and it is BACK in style.  :))
  • must be in like-brand-new condition
  • must be good quality.  Our concept is one of recycling.   Poorly-made clothing, or really-inexpensive items, will not last long enough to be used again and again.

If you have in-style, Early Fall items, in adult sizes,
we will love to look through up to 30 items and to
keep, display and sell those that we think have
the best chance of selling.

Current consignment information  (updated 8/30)

 We look through consignments:
  Mon 10 - 6:30
  Wed 10 - 6:30
  Fri 10 - 6:30
  Sat 10 - 6:30

We ask that you be sure of the following:

   1. all items have been freshly and thoroughly cleaned;
   2. you have not packed more than 30 items; and
   3. you have called, on the day you are coming, to confirm that we can take more of what you have to bring.

We are also accepting Fall items --for baby to teen and for pregnancy-- that will be worn in October and November:
This is a great time to bring good-quality, Halloween costumes and school clothing.

Reminder:  we accept Halloween items ONLY IN SEPTEMBER, and we do not accept any holiday or snow items until after September 1st.  We will not set up our snow gear area until later in September, so there is no hurry to bring snow gear early in the month.

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what you will want to bring to us in September. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in a particular size.

  • Halloween costumes that are good quality and very clean.
  • Fall, school clothing and accessories
  • jackets and hoodies

Regarding equipment and furniture:  please call ahead to confirm that we have room for more of what you have to sell.  (We do have to be sure that all equipment and furniture, that we sell, has not been recalled.  You may want to save yourself some time, by checking www.cpsc.gov before you pack the items in your car.)

Get to know the Girls!!!
By Persia Asvaraksh

Fall is approaching! We hope you'd enjoy taking time to get to know your friends...the friendly staff at Mother and Child that is.  Sure you know that Susie always has a smiling face at the register and Kelley is always busy in that backroom, but do you know their hidden talents?  We will take time every week to introduce each of our staff to you over the summer.  Not only will we be sharing fun facts about ourselves, but we'll share our shopping tips as well! If you ask us, we might be the store's best customers, and as different as we are, we all seem to find something to spend our paychecks on!  After reading our introductions, please feel free to come say hello.  We'd love to talk if you also loved the Twilight series, and even better we'd love to help you shop!

Introducing Julie!julie
Julie is one of our most energetic employees.  We suspect it is the big ice tea she makes for herself every morning but it could just be her glowing personality.  She grew up near Rochester, NY and therefore she loves the outdoors and frequently goes camping, hiking, or visiting the beach.  We love her here at Mother and Child because she loves to organize.  If we let her, she might spend the entire day organizing the books!  Not only does she love organizing at work, but she does  it at home too!  Her entire basement is full of perfectly labeled and organized tupperwares.  Julie is nicknamed "The Riddler" here at Mother and Child because she is our more inquisitive employees.  She is always asking about the new merchandise or how things work, making her the perfect person to ask if you have questions! Her favorite thing to do at the store is help customers find what they are looking for so please feel free to ask her and she will share her vast knowledge!
It always seems like Julie is buying something new at Mother and Child.  Not only will she buy clothing for her three daughters, but she often buys organizers for their rooms.  It's not unlike her to buy a set of drawers, boxes or closet organizers that come in.  She also loves all of the reusable containers and to-go ware because she uses them on her many camping trips.  Plus, now that we have a women's section, she is often bringing in her clothes and buys new ones for herself!

Who is your dream date and where would you go?
The thought of Sam Elliot still brings goosebumps to my arms, and I don't really care where we go
What is your advice to Mother and Child shoppers?
Ask us for help.  We love spending time making outfits and helping you find what you are looking for.  We will help fit your needs, whether it be for a theater show, a job interview or a wedding!
What is your life's philosophy?
Be passionate about the things you do
What is your Mother and Child product pick?
I love the to to-go ware tins, especially the really little ones because they are perfect for goldfish or peanut butter
What is your advice to young girls?
Get involved in something that spurs your interest, whether it be sports, dance, clubs or music.  It will give you confidence and is a great way to meet new people
What do you love about shopping at Mother and Child?
I love finding outfits that my girls will get excited about.  They are inexpensive but have great style!
Do you have any hidden talents?
I'm good at designing and renovating interior space for home remodeling projects.
Tell us something about yourself that might shock us?
I took skydiving lessons in college, but by the time it was my turn to jump the conditions had changed and I never got to jump!
