Consignment News

Consignment update for August:

We added adult clothing to our mix of
consignment product offerings.  yay!!
women

We have put out a call for in-style, adult clothing, amongst you, our newsletter readers.  As you are very well aware, we have limited space, so we are going to adhere to strict guidelines --from the get-go-- in order to narrow down the amount and the types of items that we will accept:
  • must be in-style (this means you bought it within the past 2 years OR you bought it 25+ years ago, and it is BACK in style.  :))
  • must be in like-new condition (ok, it may be OK to buy your 4-year-old a pair of pants which have a slight stain or may have knees that are somewhat worn, but an adult is going to require anything anything that he or she will purchase will look like new.)
  • must be good quality.  Our concept is one of recycling.   Poorly-made clothing, or really-inexpensive items, will not last long enough to be used again and again.

If you have in-style, Early Fall items, in adult sizes,
we will love to look through up to 30 items and to
keep, display and sell those that we think have
the best chance of selling.

We are accepting Fall items that will be worn in  October and November:
This is a great time to bring school uniforms --current styles only-- and like-new sneakers.

Reminder:  we accept Halloween items ONLY IN SEPTEMBER, and we do not accept any holiday or snow items until after September 1st.  Between now and September, we concentrate on getting the school-age children (kindergarten to college) clothed for the first few months of school.

Speaking of college kids... We have designated an area in the back-room decor department, to dorm-room decor. Now is the time to bring like-new bedding and decor for dorm life.

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what we can take in July. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in  a particular size.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  We look forward to seeing you.
We have room for more...
baby swings

exersaucers                                                    M,W,F,Sa  10-6:30

Regarding equipment and furniture:  please call ahead to confirm that we have room for more of what you have to sell.  (We do have to be sure that all equipment and furniture, that we sell, has not been recalled.  You may want to save yourself some time, by checking www.cpsc.gov before you pack the items in your car.)

(Note:  We are no longer able to take toys due to more strict Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.)

Get to know the Girls!!!
By Persia Asvaraksh

Summer has finally arrived!  Sure the sun seems to be the last one to know but we think this time off from school should be spent getting to know your friends...the friendly staff at Mother and Child that is.  Sure you know that Susie always has a smiling face at the register and Kelley is always busy in that backroom, but do you know their hidden talents?  We will take time every week to introduce each of our staff to you over the summer.  Not only will we be sharing fun facts about ourselves, but we'll share our shopping tips as well! If you ask us, we might be the store's best customers, and as different as we are, we all seem to find something to spend our paychecks on!  After reading our introductions, please feel free to come say hello.  We'd love to talk if you also loved the Twilight series, and even better we'd love to help you shop!

Introducing: Susiesus

Susie has been part of the Mother and Child family for quite awhile, just about 14 years!  She loves working on the floor and at the registers getting to know all of our many customers, in fact, she knows more customers names than anyone else!  One fun fact about Susie is that she grew up in Frenchtown, Maine and she is fluent!  Sometimes we catch her singing along in french to the songs of Putumayo up front.  She loves spending her time with her family, being outdoors, and discovering new places.  Because she loves spending time with her family, she is thrilled to have her son Paul working at Mother and Child, as he is one of our newest employees.  Susie tends to go with the flow here at Mother and Child making her one of our calmest and easygoing employees.  In fact her dream day is nothing more than being with her family and going out to eat and walking around Boston.  Susie is easy and fun to talk to so don't be surprised if you find yourself chatting at the register with her, and don't forget to ask about her adorable pug named Molly!

Susie describes her style as laid back.  While she loves shopping in the new Woman's section at Mother and Child, because she is petite, she can shop the junior's section as well.  Susie also has a daughter approaching her teen years whose style seems to chance with every season.  Shopping at Mother and Child lets Tracey pick a new style every month without being too expensive.  Also, since redecorating Tracey's room, Susie is often found shopping the decor area looking for throw pillows, rugs or lamps to coordinate with the changing designs.

What is your favorite thing to do at Mother and Child?
While I love talking to the customers, I also like talking to all my coworkers, it is such a friendly atmosphere!

Where is your dream vacation?
I would like to walk hand in hand with my husband on the beaches of Hawaii

What is your Mother and Child product pick?
I love all the jewelry we have up front as well as in consignment.  It is a great way to complete and outfit and we always have new items being bought everyday day!

What is your advice to Mother and Child shoppers?
If you like something, don't wait to buy it because it will be gone in seconds, also because the store is consignment, you never know when it will come back in.

What is your advice to young girls?
Learn as much as you can in school and always try to be the best you can be

What is your life's philosophy in seven words or less?
Don't sweat the small stuff.

What is your favorite color?
I love wearing the color red.  It is such a vibrant color it makes me feel better and more confident

What is something about yourself that would shock us?
I would like to write children's books.
