Greetings!

Hello!

Have you heard?
The big news is that we now have a women's consignment clothing and accessories area!  We have also started taking larger sizes in the young men's area!  Now accepting Fall items.  Please see below for more info.

and... wait until you see how neat and organized we have made the books area!
Home school parents and parents of avid readers:  this will be a great resource for you, this Fall.  We have books for baby to teen and books about parenting and teaching.

We would love it if you give us a list of the the books you need so that we can be on the lookout for what is required reading in school, or what home school parents need for their upcoming curriculum.

More big news:
Lee --the one who was away in Americorps NCCC last year-- is building us an additional dressing room and it is family-sized, so Mom and a couple of youger children might all try on clothes at the same time in one dressing romm!  This should help speed up the trying-on part of shopping at Mother & Child
tremendously.

Hey... great idea that I overheard today:  One Mom who, was shopping with children ages baby to teen, brings the younger ones shopping with a bathing suit under their clothing.  This allows Mom to try clothing on the children without waiting for a dressing room!  I thought it was ingenious!

Forward this e-news to some friends.

Do you know?

We are now open Mon- Sat 10 - 7!  and we take consignments until 6:30 on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat.

If you have
too many grocery or shopping bags
piling up in a closet somewhere, you can bring them to us.  We will be happy to re-use them here at Mother & Child.

Simple Thrift

wendy thomas Enjoyed Wendy's talk very much last Friday. If she joins us again, this Fall, which she may, I highly encourage you to make time to come and join some fun and thrifty tips!
My favorite of her "top ten thrifty tools" was the soup jar. Wendy keeps an air tight, container that has an easy-to-open lid, in the freezer, and whenever her family does not eat all of their veggies, the leftovers get thrown into the soup jar!

When the soup jar is full... It is time to make some soup!

Wendy also shared some cookies that her children baked for us which cost them about $1.25 to make a batch of a couple dozen!

Wendy's latest adventure?  raising chickens!  You can follow her chicken story on her blog or in the Telegraph.

Consignment News

Consignment update for August:

We added adult clothing to our mix of consignment product offerings.  yay!! We have put out a call for in-style, adult clothing, amongst you, our newsletter readers.  As you are very well aware, we have limited space, so we are going to adhere to strict guidelines --from the get-go-- in order to narrow down the amount and the types of items that we will accept:
  • must be in-style (this means you bought it within the past 2 years OR you bought it 25+ years ago, and it is BACK in style.  :))
  • must be in like-new condition (ok, it may be OK to buy your 4-year-old a pair of pants which have a slight stain or may have knees that are somewhat worn, but an adult is going to require anything anything that he or she will purchase will look like new.)
  • must be good quality.  Our concept is one of recycling.   Poorly-made clothing, or really-inexpensive items, will not last long enough to be used again and again.
If you have in-style, Early Fall items, in adult sizes, we will love to look through up to 30 items and to keep, display and sell those that we think have the best chance of selling.

We are accepting Fall items that will be worn in  October and November:
This is a great time to bring school uniforms --current styles only-- and like-new sneakers.

Reminder:  we accept Halloween items ONLY IN SEPTEMBER, and we do not accept any holiday or snow items until after September 1st.  Between now and September, we concentrate on getting the school-age children (kindergarten to college) clothed for the first few months of school.

Speaking of college kids... We have designated an area in the back-room decor department, to dorm-room decor. Now is the time to bring like-new bedding and decor for dorm life.

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what we can take in July. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in  a particular size.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  We look forward to seeing you.
We have room for more...

(Note:  We are no longer able to take toys due to more strict Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.)

Get to know the Girls!!!
By Persia Asvaraksh

Summer has finally arrived!  Sure the sun seems to be the last one to know but we think this time off from school should be spent getting to know your friends...the friendly staff at Mother and Child that is.  Sure you know that Susie always has a smiling face at the register and Kelley is always busy in that backroom, but do you know their hidden talents?  We will take time every week to introduce each of our staff to you over the summer.  Not only will we be sharing fun facts about ourselves, but we'll share our shopping tips as well! If you ask us, we might be the store's best customers, and as different as we are, we all seem to find something to spend our paychecks on!  After reading our introductions, please feel free to come say hello.  We'd love to talk if you also loved the Twilight series, and even better we'd love to help you shop!

Look in  next week's newsletter for a new Staff Spotlight!  (Persia had an extra busy week, this week!)
