Photo Contest Winner!!!

maureen
Two weeks ago, we put out a call for your photos of your Best Mother & Child Finds.
Kim is the winner of a $100 gift certificate to Mother & Child, for finding all 4 Wizard of Oz Characters in the correct sizes!!

Here is her entry:

Here are my four wonderful children, wearing my most favorite Mother and Child buys ever!  I had to be patient and shop weekly to see if what I needed came in (not hard, since I am in there too much) but eventually I was able to procure all the pieces.  So, it went like this... "Wow, what great costumes!!!  How on earth did you pull that off?"  me, "Oh, just went to Mother and Child."  Hope you love it as much as I do!

Kim

Consignment News

Consignment update for August:

We added adult clothing to our mix of consignment product offerings.  yay!! We have put out a call for in-style, adult clothing, amongst you, our newsletter readers.  As you are very well aware, we have limited space, so we are going to adhere to strict guidelines --from the get-go-- in order to narrow down the amount and the types of items that we will accept:
  • must be in-style (this means you bought it within the past 2 years OR you bought it 25+ years ago, and it is BACK in style.  :))
  • must be in like-new condition (ok, it may be OK to buy your 4-year-old a pair of pants which have a slight stain or may have knees that are somewhat worn, but an adult is going to require anything anything that he or she will purchase will look like new.)
  • must be good quality.  Our concept is one of recycling.   Poorly-made clothing, or really-inexpensive items, will not last long enough to be used again and again.
If you have in-style, Early Fall items, in adult sizes, we will love to look through up to 30 items and to keep, display and sell those that we think have the best chance of selling.

We are accepting Fall items that will be worn in  October and November:
This is a great time to bring school uniforms --current styles only-- and like-new sneakers.

Reminder:  we accept Halloween items ONLY IN SEPTEMBER, and we do not accept any holiday or snow items until after September 1st.  Between now and September, we concentrate on getting the school-age children (kindergarten to college) clothed for the first few months of school.

Speaking of college kids... We have designated an area in the back-room decor department, to dorm-room decor. Now is the time to bring like-new bedding and decor for dorm life.

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what we can take in July. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in  a particular size.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  We look forward to seeing you.
We have room for more...

(Note:  We are no longer able to take toys due to more strict Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.)

Get to know the Girls!!!
By Persia Asvaraksh

Summer has finally arrived!  Sure the sun seems to be the last one to know but we think this time off from school should be spent getting to know your friends...the friendly staff at Mother and Child that is.  Sure you know that Susie always has a smiling face at the register and Kelley is always busy in that backroom, but do you know their hidden talents?  We will take time every week to introduce each of our staff to you over the summer.  Not only will we be sharing fun facts about ourselves, but we'll share our shopping tips as well! If you ask us, we might be the store's best customers, and as different as we are, we all seem to find something to spend our paychecks on!  After reading our introductions, please feel free to come say hello.  We'd love to talk if you also loved the Twilight series, and even better we'd love to help you shop!

Introducing: Alyssaalyssa
Alyssa might be one of our happiest employees, in fact, you often hear her light laughter in the backroom!  She loves food and almost went to Culinary School because of it, although her favorite food is quite simple, a deli meat tray is just fine by her.  She might also be our most organized employee.  She carries her pink planner with her everywhere she goes, and loves being on time.  In fact, as odd as it sounds, in her spare time she loves balancing her checkbooks and checking on her financials.  When she was little she wanted to be a teacher, but she is not sure what she wants to do now.  She just loves doing everything so much that she can't decide!  It seems her thirst for life can't be satisfied, and it must be why she gets so excited by everything.
Alyssa describes her style as cute and random, making Mother and Child the perfect place to shop for her.  Because she can get all the different styles in one place, it's so much more convenient and she can avoid the crowds at the mall.  She loves the Alternative Apparel because it is so cute and comfortable. Also, because they are good basics, she can pair them with all her other clothes, not to mention they are all quite affordable.
Some interesting facts about Alyssa:
Where is your dream vacation?
Fiji. Ever since I saw the beautiful scene on the Fiji water bottles I have been dying to go.  I also like architecture so I would be interested in learning how they build those pagodas on the water.
What is your advice to Mother and Child shoppers?
Look through all the racks you can!  I love getting t-shirts from the boys section or tops from the displays.  There is so much to look at and everything fits differently so don't be afraid to experiment in other sizes.
What is a fact about yourself that might shock people?
I worked in a Sushi restaurant for two years and by the end, I was the head chef!  I make a mean Maki roll.
What advice would you give to young girls?
Appreciate your parents and have respect for yourself.
What is your favorite thing to do at Mother and Child?
I like working on the floor with Tammy making displays.  I love making outfits in styles that are not necessarily my own, it gives me ideas for myself!  Also I like helping customers on the sales floor and learning about children.
What is your life's philosophy, in seven words or less?
A positive attitude brings positive outcomes.
You are in a bad mood when a song comes on and turns it all around.  What song can't always gets you dancing?
I love "Nothing's gonna stop us now" by Jefferson Starship.  I loved the movie Mannequin, and it reminds me of how funny it is.
What is your Mother and Child product pick?
The Alternative Apparel, it's so cute!
