Consignment News

Consignment update for July:
Sounds strange, since we are STILL waiting for Summer to start..., but July is when you can start bringing back-to-school consignments

We are ready to accept items that the children will be wearing in September and October:
such as light-weight clothing and accessories, and in colors that work for Fall.  That is, items that can be worn in layers during the early Fall days that can range from 50 degrees to 80 degrees.  It is too early for turtle necks, wool, corduroy, and flannel.

Below is a list to use as a guide as to what we can take in July. We suggest that you always call ahead to confirm, as during a given week, we may have too much in  a particular size.

capris, long shorts, and skirts
long shorts for boys
light-weight tops (long and short sleeve) that are nice enough and "OK" to where to school (and colors that are good for Fall)
light-weight dresses (no velour or holiday-looking dresses yet.  :) )
rain coats and brand-name hoodies
sneakers and sandals
school uniforms (bring the short sleeves and shorts first, it will still be OK to bring the long pants and long sleeves in August.)
fleece and rain jackets (no winter jackets, yet)  Note: denim jackets mostly don't sell
baby clothing will basically follow the same guidelines. (long-sleeved, long pants, but not corduroy, velour, and such.))
Decor for dorm rooms
Thank you for taking the time to read this.  We look forward to seeing you.
We have room for more...
baby swings
pack n plays
exersaucers
jolly jumpers
back-pack-style carriers
universal car seat stroller frames
changing tables

Regarding equipment and furniture:  please call ahead to confirm that we have room for more of what you have to sell.  (We do have to be sure that all equipment and furniture, that we sell, has not been recalled.  You may want to save yourself some time, by checking www.cpsc.gov before you pack the items in your car.)

(Note:  We are no longer able to take toys due to more strict Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.)

Get to know the Girls!!!
by Persia Asvasaksh
Summer has finally arrived!  Sure the sun seems to be the last one to know but we think this time off from school should be spent getting to know your friends...the friendly staff at Mother and Child that is.  Sure you know that Susie always has a smiling face at the register and Kelley is always busy in that backroom, but do you know their hidden talents?  We will take time every week to introduce each of our staff to you over the summer.  Not only will we be sharing fun facts about ourselves, but we'll share our shopping tips as well! If you ask us, we might be the store's best customers, and as different as we are, we all seem to find something to spend our paychecks on!  After reading our introductions, please feel free to come say hello.  We'd love to talk if you also loved the Twilight series, and even better we'd love to help you shop!

Introducing: Lee lee

Lee is not only Karen's youngest daughter but one of our coolest Mother and Child employees as well!  She just returned from a year away in the AmeriCorps program.  She spent time helping out in Iowa, Indiana and Michigan.  She says her favorite was Michigan because it reminded her of New England and she is proud to report that after her experience with the program she can now build a house!   Her favorite movie is Transformers, because she loves the robots in disguise.  She will be studying architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall.  In her spare time she likes to take pictures, go snowboarding and hang out with her homies.

Lee describes her style as varying by mood.  She wears anything from casual gym shorts to cute sundresses.  She loves that she can find all these styles in one place, at Generation Next!  Not only can she find clothing but she loves the accessories, shoes and purses too!

If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Time Travel. I would love to meet the dinosaurs and cavemen, as well aliens in new planets.

What is your favorite food?
I love vegetarian tacos and burritos!

What is your favorite thing to do at Mother and Child?
I love working on the website.  Adding new items, checking for sales and sending customers their purchases!  It's neat to reach a whole new market of customers.

What is some advice you would give to young girls?
Don't worry about what other people are saying about you.  It won't matter later anyways.

What would you say is your personal philosophy in life, in 7 words or less?
Live for today

Her Mother and Child Product Pick? Badger Balm, it works well, smells great and is good for me and the environment.

What is your advice to Mother and Child shoppers?
Come in as frequently as possible!  There are always new items going on the sales floor.  Also, if you bring in a few items every week, you can build up credit for when you shop.

Money-saving ideas from customers and employees at Mother & Child:simple thrift

Tip of the week:

Save the date!  Wendy Thomas of "Simple Thrift"  will join us at Mother & Child on July 31st to tell us her  list of "Thrifty Tools I Can't Live Without."  She will be in the shop at 6PM and will talk for about a half hour.  She promised to bring a "thrifty snack"  made by her children!  We'll serve some cheese and crackers, too!
