1 World Trading Co.
Where you will find fair-trade, locally-made and "green" products in a beautiful and friendly Downtown Nashua shop.

路 Fair-trade is commerce that seeks to create positive change, often in developing countries. It empowers poorer communities to improve their living standards in a way that is healthy and sustainable.

路 The purchase of locally-made products keeps dollars within a local community while reducing environmental impact. This is true because the items have not been shipped to a distribution center and then re-shipped to individual stores.

路 Environmentally-responsible products are more and more in demand as consumers seek to live a "greener" life. Come visit us for simple steps to green living.

Oak
is a boutique in Boston for all things handmade. Buying handmade helps to build community, and establish new artisans.

Buying Handmade makes for better gift-giving.
The giver of a handmade gift has avoided the parking lots and long lines of the big chain stores in favor of something more meaningful. If the giver has purchased the gift, s/he feels the satisfaction of supporting an artist or crafter directly. The recipient of the handmade gift receives something that is one-of-a-kind, and made with care and attention that can
be seen and touched. It is the result of skill and craftsmanship that is absent in the world of large-scale manufacturing.

____________

Greetings!
This issue is only about consignment because this is our busiest time of the year for incoming consignments.
recyle bags
oh yeah!  I keep forgetting to mention: Do you have grocery and shopping bags piling up in a closet?  We will re-use them if you want to bring them with you when you visit Mother & Child next.
It is wonderful!!
We have seen a magnificent increase in the number of parents who are interested in recycling their children's clothing.  folded clothingOn some consignment days there are more consignments than we
can possibly process in a timely manner.  (Yes, we know multiple locations is a good idea and we are working on that.:) )  In the meantime we are repeating --and asking you to remind your friends-- that it is best if you call on the day that you want to bring consignments to ask if we are able to take them.  Thank you. :)

603 886 6727 -ask for a business card during your next visit.

2 more reminders:

   1. please do not park in the truck-turn-around, and please use the back entrance for loading and un-loading only.  Please pull around front to park after unloading consignments.
   2. please sort and count your items at home, as our consignment area is small and gets congested.  Additionally, we find that many people are thinking that we will TAKE 30 items and so they will bring more than 30 thinking that we will keep looking until we find 30 items that we think will sell..  The rule is that we look though not more than 30 items.  Please do not bring more than 30 items with you as we will not look at more than the first 30. Please look at the FAQ below, for further info.

Thank you so much for your understanding  and cooperation, and thank you for taking the time to read all of the above.  :)

frequently asked questions:

Q. Why do we have so many rules?

A. Items that take up space in the shop and do not sell, do not benefit us or you.  When in doubt, save us all some time, and give us a call @ 603-886-6727 or e-mail us @ info@mothersays.com.

Q. May I bring in more than 30 items?

A. No. We will only look through 30 items.  The consignment area is small and gets congested.  Please sort and count your items at home, not in the shop.  Thank you.

Q. Do you pay me for my items on the day that I bring them to you?

A. No.  Your items will be kept on consignment.  After they sell, credit goes into your consignment account.  You may then use your credit or take cash.  note: Please refer to our Consignment Policies for info about cash vs. credit percentages.

Q. May I bring more than 30 Items?

A. No. We will only look through 30 items.  The consignment area is small and gets congested.  Please sort and count your items at home, not in the shop.  Thank you.

Q. Do I need an appointment to bring items to you?

A. No. We do, however, have strict rules about the number of items you can bring in a day. We ALWAYS RECOMMEND CALLING AHEAD to ask if the items you are about to bring are items we are able to accept.  (Often, we just have too many of a particular item, for example.)

NOTE: It is especially important to call ahead before you bring a larger item (crib, baby swing....) because it will be an incredible waste of your time to load these into your car and then find out we do not have room to take them.

Q. May I choose the prices that you will put on my consigned items?

A. While we are open to suggestion, we have 19+ years of experience in selling children's and maternity items, and will use that experience to make the final decision on how to price your items.

Q. Does the money in my account ever expire?

A. No. Your credit-earned stays in your account until you use it to purchase items in the shop, or until you take a cash payout.

Q. What happens to items that do not sell in the alloted 3 month period?

A.  They get donated to a local charity that will give them away to those in need.

Q. Will I make lots of money by cleaning out my closets and attic?

A. Well... you may make some money.  However, we are all about recycling and about selling nice, up-to-date, clean, baby/children's/maternity items at very reasonable prices.   Note: We do not sell collectibles or antiques at Mother & Child, and we do not recommend buying things at yard sales and trying to make money by selling them at Mother & Child.

Q. How should I prepare the items I want to sell?

A.  We will only consider freshly laundered/cleaned items that are in style, in demand and free of defects.  We ask you to look over your freshly washed items for missing buttons, stains, missing toy pieces, etc and to bring only 30-or-less clean, sellable items for us to consider.  Clothing does not need to be ironed, but does need to be neatly folded.

Q. I am moving (or have other special circumstances.)  May I bring you more than 30 items at one time?

A. The reality is... we are asked this question several times per day, and so, we must say "no." We feel it is not fair to bend the rules for some and not for others.  Most people will find that if they look through their items carefully, with a critical eye, and make sure they are all for the correct season, they can pare down the number of trips they need to make to consign all of their outgrown items.

Q. How do I find out how much money is in my account?

A. You can call us (603-886-6727), e-mail us (info@mothersays.com) or stop in and ask us to look up your account anytime dring business hours.  Remember: the balance that we quote to you will be your "store credit" balance.  If you intend to take cash or a check, the balance will be less. (Please refer to our Consignment Policies for info about cash vs. credit percentages.)

Q. Do I ned to remember my account number?

A. You do not need to remember an account number.  We look you up by your name and your telephone number.
