Children and Teens in Port St. Joe Find New Summertime Opportunities
Summer has a whole new feel for young people in the small coastal town of Port St. Joe, Florida. A partnership between the Jessie Ball duPont Port St. Joe Capacity Building Fund at The Community Foundation in Jacksonville and Gulf Coast Workforce Development Board, Inc., has led to a bustling summer day camp for children and teens,
and a summer job internship program for older youth in Port St. Joe, a community where opportunities historically have been few. |

Mosaic Company Foundation Announces New Investments in Florida Community Organizations
The Mosaic Company Foundation announced community investments totaling $2.79 million to organizations serving Florida's Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Hardee, DeSoto, Sarasota and Charlotte counties, as part of a global launch of
its new online grant system. Mosaic awarded grants to Florida organizations implementing initiatives focused on
hunger relief, agricultural research and development, water conservation and stewardship, and community enrichment. |

CSX Highlighted in Chronicle of Philanthropy's Corporate Giving Survey
CSX Corporation's charitable giving was highlighted in the Chronicle of Philanthropy's coverage of its latest corporate giving survey. In
a study of
large companies (see Giving Trends below), CSX posted
the second-largest increase in giving between 2010 and
2011: nearly 70%. |

Knight Foundation to Focus on Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Miami
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is adding a major new focus to its philanthropic efforts in Miami: entrepreneurship. While the initiative is still in its infancy, the foundation plans to make grants in six areas: space; mentorship and training; regular gatherings; annual gatherings or signature events; communications and funding, which continues to be a major challenge for South Florida entrepreneurs. |

Tampa Bay Lightning Launches 2012-2013 Season of Community Heroes
The Tampa Bay Lightning has launched the second season of its program that seeks nominations for local, grassroots Community Heroes who are using their lives to make the greater Tampa Bay community a better place. Each Hero receives $50,000 to designate to worthy causes, with the goal of distributing
$2,050,000 over the course of the season. First

Miami Dade College is teaming up with NBC Learn, the educational arm of NBC News, to provide digital learning resources that significantly expand learning opportunities at the college. The collaboration provides subscription access to NBC News' resources to students, faculty and staff at the college, beginning with the fall 2012 semester,
and was made possible through support from The Miami Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Marlins Foundation. |

Policy Report: Will Work, For Change
- Demand-Driven Workforce Solutions for Florida's Future
If Florida is to supply the future workers so vital to businesses, then its workforce investment system must become more responsive to business, better coordinated, and able to demonstrate a direct return on investment, according to a new policy report by Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
The report calls for a shift in the workforce system from the current
"supply-side" focus on workers to a "demand-driven" model that meets business needs. |

Gulf Coast Community Foundation: 2012-2013 Grant Guidelines
Gulf Coast Community Foundation has released its grant
guidelines for its 2013 fiscal year (July 1, 2012-June
30, 2013). This year, Gulf Coast will fund Leveraged
grants and Transformative grants greater than $10,000,
and Community grants of $10,000 and under. First
deadline for Leveraged and Transformative grants: Aug. 30. |

Women's Fund of Miami-Dade: 2013 Community Grants & Women of Color-Led Reproductive Justice Grants
The Women's Fund's Community Grants support programs that are female-specific and serve women and girls living in Miami-Dade County, with awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Proposal deadline: Sept. 10. The Women's Fund's Reproductive Justice Grants support nonprofits serving women and girls in Miami-Dade County that are committed to creating long-term social change for women and employ organizing strategies to reach a targeted legislative goal.
Organizations that are part of this initiative must be led by women of color. LOI deadline: Aug. 17. |
