Walt Disney World Ends 40-Day Journey to Benefit Central Florida's Children
Arriving at the Hope CommUnity Center with a Disney grant for $41,000, Walt Disney World cast members awarded the organization its top grant as
Disney marked the end of a 40-day celebration to surprise, recognize and reward organizations that improve the lives of local children. Since April 13, Walt Disney World has given more than $1.2 million
to organizations that educate, develop and care for local youth. |

Bank of America Pledges $1 Million for Miami Art Museum
Bank of America has made a $1 million donation to the Miami Art Museum's $120 million capital campaign. The gift will fund a five-year programming endowment for new artwork, as well as the naming of a focus gallery in MAM's new Herzog & de Meuron-designed building
in Miami's Museum Park, which is slated to open in 2013. |

skilled and action-oriented leaders who can help build a stronger region. |

56 Finalists Announced in Knight Arts Challenge Miami
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced the finalists in the Knight Arts Challenge Miami, an annual contest that aims to bring South Florida together through the arts.
The 56 finalists emerged from a wide-ranging field of
applicants with a broad spectrum of ideas. |

Epilepsy Foundation of Florida Wins in Final Round of Chase Community Giving
The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida was among 25 charities nationwide to receive funding through Round Two of Chase Community Giving on Facebook. The Epilepsy Foundation received $25,000 from Round One and $20,000 from Round Two. Two other Florida charities made the Top 100 list:

AT&T Contributes to Joplin Storm Relief and Care
The AT&T Foundation announced a $50,000 grant to the Greater Ozarks Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross to support storm relief efforts in Joplin, Mo. The funds will be presented to the local chapter to help restoration and relief efforts that will benefit victims of the severe weather that affected the Joplin community. |

The Patterson Foundation Increases Match for Alabama Tornado Relief
The Patterson Foundation has increased its commitment to match donations made through The JOY FM's "Gift Cards for Alabama" drive, benefiting communities in rural Calhoun County, Ala., impacted by the April tornadoes. Matching funds will be used to seed a tornado relief fund benefiting Calhoun County.
The funds will be leveraged for the permanent needs of the community, including construction of permanent structures. |

New Fund Addresses Ongoing Gulf Coast Community Recovery
To assist people continuing to recover from the Deepwater Horizon disaster, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors has announced the launch of the Fund for Gulf Communities. With a long-term goal of enhancing the resiliency of Gulf Coast communities, the fund has made grants to six regional organizations working with groups in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi. Recipients include the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice,
Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida and the Greater Escambia Community Foundation in Pensacola. |

The Charlotte Community Foundation's Leo Wotitzky Scholarship Fund awarded grants to three Charlotte County students seeking to further their educational careers: Blake Lynne Neumann (Port Charlotte High School graduate 2006, FGCU graduate 2010, attending University of Florida Levin College of Law); Ashley M. Kreher (Lemon Bay High School graduate 2011); and William Patrick Russell (Port Charlotte High School graduate 2011). |

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties approved a record amount of $730,000 in scholarships for 106 students from Palm Beach and Martin counties. The scholarship
amounts ranged from $1,000 to $30,000. |

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County
awarded $1,000 college scholarships to 11 high school seniors who took part in The Ringling College Library Association (RCLA) Town Hall Lecture Series. The students were among 120 public and private high school juniors and seniors sponsored by the foundation to
attend one of the six RCLA 2010 evening lectures at the Van Wezel as "RCLA Scholars." |

Dogs Serving As Students and Teachers for Inmates in Florida Prison System
Dozens of medium-security inmates at the Gulf County Correctional Institution Forestry Camp have volunteered to participate in DAWGS In Prison, a program of the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society in cooperation with the Florida Department of Corrections. Funded in part by a $10,000 grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund's Port St. Joe Capacity Building Fund, DAWGS has a dual mission: to increase the adoption rate of dogs at the Humane Society's shelter,
and to help inmates develop skills that will enhance their employability and citizenship upon release. |

New FPN Report: Florida's FY 2011-2012 Budget: The Impact on Nonprofits
On May 27, Governor Rick Scott signed a $69 billion budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year beginning July 1, down from a $70.4 billion budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. To help our members understand how the budget will impact Florida's nonprofit sector,
FPN has prepared a summary report of some items in the budget that are of particular interest to Florida grantmakers
regarding state funding of the nonprofits that they
support. This report is an initial, "first cut" look at
the state's budget for the next fiscal year. |

Reinvesting in Arts Education: Winning America's Future Through Creative Schools
Decades of research show strong and consistent links between high-quality arts education and a wide range of impressive educational outcomes, according to this new report by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH), with major support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The PCAH is making five recommendations for actions to be undertaken by different stakeholders to advance arts education, and recognizes that any significant advancement in the field will require "unprecedented unity of purpose and the coordinated actions" of
local, state and federal government agencies, educators and professional associations, and the arts community. |

Open Spaces Sacred Places: The Healing Power of Nature
In 2012, the TKF Foundation will begin the Open Spaces Sacred Places National Awards Initiative,
which will fund the creation of significant Open Spaces Sacred Places that are designed specifically with the intent to study and communicate the impact of a specific type of urban public greenspace on users. Grants will be awarded from a total funding pool of $5 million. Funding will be provided to cross-disciplinary teams
that conceptualize, plan, design and implement a physical space, conduct associated research study(s) and disseminate findings.
Planning grant deadline: Sept. 1.
