Gulf Coast Gives   "Gulf Coast Gives" Lets Anyone Be a Philanthropist
Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice has launched a new online giving site - "Gulf Coast Gives" - that connects the needs of local charities with people in the community who want to help. Visitors can shop online for charity projects and buy nonprofits exactly what they need - clay for children's art classes, scholarships for Little Leaguers, food for struggling families and much more.
       
BCBSF Foundation   Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Unveils New Name, New Mission For Its Foundation
As Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida celebrates 10 years of enhancing the health and well-being of all Floridians through its foundation, the company is changing the name and expanding the mission of its philanthropy.  The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida is now known as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation.  The foundation's new mission is to improve the health and well-being of Floridians and their communities, which it will accomplish in five focus areas.
   
> Knight Foundation, Mozilla Announce Media Innovation Partnership
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Mozilla are joining forces to help the media adapt to the evolving digital landscape, in a new partnership that will place technologists in newsrooms to devise ways to engage people in the news.
    
> Helios Education Foundation Supports Teach For America Miami
Helios Education Foundation has awarded a $1 million matching gift to Teach For America's Miami-Dade region. In the 2010-2011 school year, nearly 150 Teach For America corps members will reach more than 10,000 students in approximately 20 schools throughout Miami-Dade County.
     
> Jessie Ball duPont Fund Helps Nonprofits Build Capacity
The Jessie Ball duPont Fund has announced first-quarter grants totaling $2.6 million to 22 nonprofits in Florida and eight other states. Grants were awarded to help nonprofits build capacity, expand access, create opportunity and conserve energy.

Learning to Read Guide   Learning to Read: A Guide to Federal Funding for Grade-Level Reading Proficiency
The Finance Project has released a first-of-its-kind guide to help state and local officials, leaders of community-based and national organizations, school leaders, and private investors to find funding to strengthen and sustain grade-level reading programs and services for children from birth through third grade.  It identifies more than 100 federal funding sources that can be used to address the root causes of failing to read, to help fund remediation strategies, and to build cohesive systems to effectively train and guide professionals.
    
> Benchmarking 2010: Trends in Education Philanthropy
A new report from Grantmakers for Education offers insights into the current priorities, practices and concerns of education grantmakers.  One pronounced shift is the increased number of funders engaging with education policy, as well as the widening roles they are playing in this area.

President Obama's proposed budget will include money for pilot efforts to offer so-called social-impact bonds that encourage nonprofits to develop programs that get results.

> Térèse Coudreaut joined the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as director of human resources.  She previously worked for the Knight Foundation as manager of workforce performance and development, where she created a metrics-based approach to determining success.  Most recently, Coudreaut headed a global consulting practice at Alexander Proudfoot Co. that helped companies adapt to large-scale operational change.
      
> Debra Kent Faulk named Community Affairs Officer in the philanthropy division of the Wells Fargo Social Responsibility Group, where she provides grantmaking and nonprofit consultancy to Wells Fargo leadership and team members throughout the Greater Gulf Coast region of Florida, including the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Sarasota, Manatee, Highlands, Charlotte, DeSoto, Lee and Collier.  Most recently, Faulk was public relations specialist for IKEA.
   
> Louis-Albert H. Jolivert elected chairman of The Miami Foundation's board of governors.  The board also appointed four new members: Maria Alonso, Corporate Social Responsibility Market Manager for Miami-Dade/Monroe counties at Bank of America; Pablo L. Cejas, Chairman and CEO of Ascendant Commercial Insurance; Rick Schatz, Managing Director of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A.; and Bruce Turkel, CEO of TURKEL.

> Nonprofits Honored at BCBSF Foundation's Sapphire Awards Ceremony
Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center received the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation's Sapphire Award, which came with $120,000. The awards honor nonprofits for their dedication to improving the health of Florida's uninsured and underserved populations. The Center provides medical care for homeless and recovering women, treatment services and quality physical and mental health care for uninsured and underserved families in Broward County. Awards of Distinction went to Hebni Nutrition Consultants and Tykes & Teens; Honorable Mentions went to DLC Nurse & Learn and Okaloosa AIDS Support & Informational Services (OASIS).
