For Good Awards   Post-Career Social Entrepreneurs Honored by Community Foundation of Broward
Three Broward residents, quietly making a difference by devoting their retirements to combating homelessness, unemployment and grief have been named the inaugural "For Good Awards" finalists by the Community Foundation of Broward. The three post-career philanthropists will share $50,000 for their independent social causes.
       
The Patterson Foundation   The Patterson Foundation Issues Matching Gift, Inspires Philanthropy for Arthritis Foundation
The Patterson Foundation announced that it would match every dollar raised by the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter (AFFC) through its series of seven 2010 Jingle Bell Run/Walk events and online "virtual" event up to $250,000, which was later increased with a stretch goal of $500,000. The matching funds will create an endowment to advance AFFC's mission.
   
> 14 Jacksonville Nonprofits Build Collaborative Effort to Fight Hunger
The Hunger SWAT Team - an informal coalition of 14 community-based, emergency service nonprofits in Jacksonville - has found new ways to work in the community and with each other, to the benefit of their clients and their own organizational health, with support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund.
    
> Sarasota's Season of Sharing Campaign Raises $1.5 Million for People in Need
For the second straight year, the Season of Sharing campaign - an 11-year partnership of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Herald-Tribune Media Group - surpassed its annual $1.5 million goal for donations to help families at risk of homelessness. Matching dollars are still available for contributions to the campaign, which ends in March.

Relief workers used innovative technologies in unprecedented ways to aid in the recovery of quake-ravaged Haiti, a new Knight Foundation-funded report has found.
     
> Disney Dream Cruise Benefits Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida
During a special sail-away ceremony, Disney Cruise Line presented Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida with a check for $750,000 to kick off a two-night "Benefit Preview Cruise" aboard the newest ship in Disney's fleet.

Giving in Florida 2011   Florida Foundation Giving Expected to Grow in 2011, After Several Up-and-Down Years, New FPN Report Shows
Charitable giving by Florida's foundations and corporations totaled $1.49 billion in 2008, an increase of 4.6% from the previous year, according to the 2011 edition of FPN's "Giving in Florida" report. Due to the economic recession, the report estimates that Florida foundation and corporate giving declined by about nearly 10% in 2009 but is likely to grow again starting in 2011. FPN's report provides new facts and figures on Florida's charitable giving, including giving by subject area and geographic area.

2011 Florida Grantmaking Outlook Report   Florida Grantmakers Expect More Positive Giving Climate, New FPN Survey Shows
Florida grantmakers anticipate a more positive outlook for the state's charitable giving in 2011 and beyond, according to an FPN survey, with 38% of funders expecting their total grant dollars to increase in 2011 from 2010 levels and nearly half - 49% - saying their giving will stay about the same. The biggest changes that Florida grantmakers plan to make in their funding in 2011 is to increase capacity building/strategic planning grants.

> FPN Hosts Largest-Ever Statewide Summit on Philanthropy
More than 185 people gathered for Florida Philanthropic Network's 2011 Statewide Summit on Philanthropy - FPN's third annual conference and largest ever.  The two-day event offered speeches by prominent national philanthropy and nonprofit leaders, concurrent sessions on key funding issues - even a Random Act of Culture courtesy of the Knight Foundation.  Click the link above to download resources from Summit sessions (with videos coming soon!).

> Six Floridians Among Nation's Top 50 Philanthropists in 2010
Six Floridians appear in the Chronicle of Philanthropy's listing of the country's top 50 philanthropists in 2010, including Bennett LeBow (No. 23), Lin Arison (No. 28), Norton Herrick (No. 32) and William P. and Lou W. Kennedy (No. 34).  The 50 top philanthropists donated a total of $3.3 billion to charity in 2010, the smallest total in the history of the rankings.

> Roxanne Jerde has been named the next President and CEO of The Community Foundation of Sarasota County, effective March 1.  Jerde's selection is the culmination of a transition process that began with a community listening campaign and strategic planning initiative last year, following the retirement of long-time CEO Stewart W. Stearns.  Jerde is Senior Vice President for Donor Relations and Education at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, a $1.2 billion organization that is one of the largest community foundations in the nation and is widely regarded as a thought leader in the community foundation world.
   
> Steven E. Marcus Ed.D., President and CEO of the Health Foundation of South Florida in Miami, was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of Florida Philanthropic Network at the Board's meeting on February 2, 2011.  Mark Brewer, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Central Florida in Orlando, was elected Vice Chair. Eileen Boyle, President and CEO of Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Inc., based in Tampa, will continue serving as Secretary/Treasurer.

> The Miami Foundation: State Attorney's Denise Moon Memorial Fund Grant Program
The Miami Foundation is now accepting proposals for the 2011 grant cycle for this program, which supports efforts that assist victims of crime, reduce crimes' effect on our community, promote opportunities for job training and placement, and provide educational opportunities and scholarships.  Proposal deadline: March 18.
