Dr. Phillips Charities Helps Women Transition After Incarceration
Women who want to change their lives after being released from incarceration will continue to receive support toward achieving that goal thanks to a
$100,000 grant from Dr. Phillips Charities to First Orlando Foundation to fund the operation and maintenance of Lydia House, a nine-month transitional housing
program that provides medical support, counseling and job skills training for non-violent female offenders who have nowhere else to go.
The grant was among $2.35 million in grants and pledges awarded in July and August to local nonprofits by Dr. Phillips Charities. |

Bank of America Provides Record Gift to Feeding America
Bank of America Charitable Foundation supported 36 food banks in 18 states, including Florida, as part of a $1.1 million donation to Feeding America
to connect low-income Americans with the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It is the largest gift in
Feed America's history to support SNAP outreach efforts. |

AT&T Commits Support to High-Needs Schools in Florida
AT&T has committed $1.5 million to Communities In Schools to be used in part to hire 26 additional site coordinators in high-needs schools in 14 communities,
including three Florida sites: Jacksonville, Miami and Palm Beach. These coordinators will help connect
at-risk-students with academic support, mentoring, counseling, after-school programs, career development, intervention, health care and other resources. |

Jacksonville Community Foundation Supports Efforts to Improve Public Education
The Community Foundation in Jacksonville recently supported several local efforts to impact the quality of public education in Jacksonville, including grants to its Quality Education for All initiative, Save Duval Schools, and
to the Jacksonville Public Education Fund to support a
community project showcasing Duval County public school students and build awareness about the community's dropout crisis. |

St. Petersburg-based
www.SciFlies.org aims to demystify scientists and encourage donors from the general public to make small
contributions to specific scientific research projects that catch their eye. The
site reflects an emerging trend based on crowd-sourcing and crowd-funding,
and is aimed at reducing scientists' heavy dependence on federal funding and foundation grants. |

and Rick Scott (R). The debate is part of the "Decision 2010: Before You Vote" project created and produced by the partnership of Leadership Florida and
the Florida Press Association.

Maggie Osborn Appointed FPN's New Vice President
FPN is pleased to announce the appointment of Maggie Osborn as our new vice president, effective Oct. 4. Osborn
was previously grant director of the Conn Memorial Foundation, where she worked since 2003 managing the foundation's annual grant portfolio,
facilitating agency capacity-building, developing curriculum and facilitating training
for nonprofits, and serving as a community liaison.
Osborn has served in numerous volunteer leadership
capacities for local, regional and national
philanthropic organizations.

Florida Workforce Collaborative Receives National Designation
Manatee and Sarasota County will become the nation's newest National Fund for Workforce Solutions (NFWS) site,
and the only one in Florida, thanks to work by CareerEdge Funders Collaborative of Manatee & Sarasota. CareerEdge will receive $450,000 in new grant money from NFWS.
Investors in CareerEdge include the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. |

Big Banks to Give Housing Groups First Shot at Foreclosed Homes
The Obama administration announced that Bank of America, Wells Fargo and other major mortgage lenders have agreed to give local nonprofit groups 48 hours to
evaluate foreclosed properties ahead of private buyers. Congress allocated $7 billion for charities and local officials to buy such homes,
but they are often outbid by speculators who make minimal improvements or sit on the properties, waiting for the housing market to pick up.
