Foundation has launched with a mission to inspire

Four Florida Foundations Are Knight Community Information Challenge Winners
Four Florida foundations are among 24 winners of the
second Knight Community Information Challenge, a
five-year, $24 million contest of the John S. and James
L. Knight Foundation that helps community and
place-based foundations find creative ways to use new
media and technology to keep residents informed and
engaged. Florida winners are Community Foundation of
North Florida, Gulf Coast Community Foundation of
Venice, Health Foundation of South Florida and Coral
Gables Community Foundation.

He will provide consulting services to the foundation in order to ensure an efficient and effective transition. Under Stearns' leadership, the foundation grew from $300,000 to more than $160 million in assets. |

What Do Grantees Think of Funder Collaboratives?
GrantCraft asked funders and grantees what they thought
about funder collaboratives and got 1,200 responses. The
key finding: Grantees are almost as likely to call their
experience with funder collaboratives "mixed" or
"negative" (43% and 5%, respectively) as to report a
generally positive experience (52%). By contrast,
a large majority of grantmakers (70%) call the
experience a positive one. |

A New Diverse Majority: Students of Color in the South's Public Schools
The South's public schools have a majority of students
of color for the first time in history, according to a
new report by the Southern Education Foundation. The SEF report analyzes this important landmark by examining the over-arching historical, social, political and demographic events of the
last 140 years that established today's trend and its implications for Southern education and the Southern economy. |
