Foundation Giving Trends (2009 Edition)

 Grantmaking for eight of 10 major subject areas rose in 2007, despite the first signs of an economic downturn, according to this new report from the Foundation Center. A new report by the Foundation Coalition and the Greenlining Institute describes a group of California foundations' planning and initial grantmaking focused on capacity-building and leadership development for small, grassroots community-based organizations that primarily serve ethnic minority populations. The State of Corporate Philanthropy: A McKinsey Global Survey

Effective corporate philanthropy programs are more likely than others to align their giving with social and political trends most relevant to their businesses, according to a McKinsey global survey of corporate executives, which also found that many companies don't think they're doing a good job of meeting their social goals. "Shovel-Ready" But Stalled: Nonprofit Infrastructure Projects Ready for Economic Recovery Support

This new report by the Johns Hopkins University Nonprofit Listening Post Project identifies 1,065 shovel-ready nonprofit projects stalled by the organizations' inability to secure financing due to the recession, including 11 projects in Florida totaling more than $18 million. Florida's Foreclosure Crisis: How Can Philanthropy Respond?

In this FPN teleconference program for grantmakers, representatives of several organizations working on the front lines of Florida's foreclosure crisis will provide an update of the on-the-ground impact of foreclosures for people and communities in our state.  The teleconference will also explore the role that philanthropy can play to help Florida address its foreclosure crisis, and will share how two Florida grantmakers have gotten involved.
