Standing Wave Moves
On July 8 "Standing Wave" by Gerard Tsutakawa and the new Sound Transit Station were dedicated. "Standing Wave" was installed temporarily at the SR 104 Mini Park in 2004, waiting to be moved to the location it was designed for at the corner of Main and Railroad, at the north end of the new Sound Transit Edmonds Station.
Tsutakawa also created railing insets for the station that are located at the south end of the Station.
Look for a new art installation at the SR 104 Mini Park site this fall. The Arts Commission plans to use the site for exhibit of large sculptures on a temporary 1 - 2 year basis. |

"On The Fence"
TEMPORARY ARTWORK at 201 2nd Ave S
Mona Smiley Fairbanks created the first installation of artwork - cut sheet metal flowers - for the City fence just south of ArtWorks. "Although my shapes are graphic representations in sheet metal on a cyclone fence, they will talk of fine art and the need for art for art's sake and stimulate a conversation on nature." The imagery is borrowed from Smiley Fairbank's monoprint artwork and will be "on the fence" for the next several months. Smiley Fairbanks will also give a talk about her work, date tbd.
This installation is the first of ongoing temporary exhibits created on the fence for periods of 2 - 6 months. Artists are invited to apply throughout the year. Proposals will be reviewed at regularly scheduled Arts Commission meetings. See info under "Public Art" at www.ci.edmonds.wa.us/artscommission
