log cabinSALE EAC POSTERS $15

Until 2004 EAC produced a limited-edition signed poster biennially to promote Edmonds and regional artists with scenes such as the Car Show, the waterfront, Gracie's gazebo, the log cabin, and boats in the marina. The remaining posters are on sale for $15 each, almost half price. Proceeds from the sale of these posters benefit the Tourism Promotion Fund which supports promotion of events and performances by Edmonds arts organizations that bring visitors to our community. Call For Artists

"ON THE FENCE" - TEMPORARY ARTWORK

The City of Edmonds Arts Commission is offering an opportunity for regional artists to create temporary outdoor art installations on the City owned fence south of ArtWorks at 201 2nd Ave S.EAC is interested in encouraging visual conversation through temporary artworks on the chain link fence. The fence provides the base for a strong visual statement to people walking or driving by, and visitors to the arts facility. Content must be deemed family friendly and appropriate for public display in a community space with diverse audiences. Projects will remain on the fence for up to 4 months. "ESSENTIALLY EDMONDS" PHOTO CONTEST

Amateur and professional photographers, 18 and up, are invited to participate in the "Essentially Edmonds" photo contest co-sponsored by EAC and EAFF. Enter your images of what you believe captures the places and people that make Edmondsa special community to live in and visit. EAFF will award a $200 First Place Purchase Award, $100 Second Place, and two $50 Honorable Mention awards. All photos are eligible for use on the City's new website. Braille kidsLouis Braille Students Visit Exhibit

In March, students from the Louis Braille School in Edmonds visited the EAC and EAFF joint exhibit featuring Jim Ballard and Richard Hestekind. Jim Ballard worked with the school to develop a book called "Spineless Critters" featuring intricate embossings and Braille descriptions of insects (with a grant from EAFF). Pages from the book were exhibited along with large carved stone pieces and sumi paintings. Ballard & Hestekind created "Community", large carved granite pieces for the Meadowdale Playfields, in 1993.

 

stand waveStanding Wave Moves

Later this Spring, "Standing Wave" by Gerard Tsutakawa will be moved from its current location near the ferry holding lanes to the corner of Railroad Ave and Main St!  Sound Transit will complete the platform and parking lot area this Summer.

 

The current location of the sculpture at the SR 104 Mini Park will be used by the Arts Commission as a site for temporary (1-2 years) exhibit of sculpture by regional artists in the future.

 

WELCOME! Suzy Maloney

The Edmonds Arts Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Suzy Maloney to a four year term. Maloney, a four-year Edmonds resident, has over 20 years experience in corporate Human Resources. She is a past board member of Pratt Fine Arts Institute in Seattle and a current board member of EdmondsCenter for the Arts. She has done volunteer consulting for Business Volunteers for the Arts and Executive Services Corp.

 

EAC Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of EAC's 2011 Performing and Literary Arts Scholarships: Todd Hollenhorst, Hannah King and Jessica McLellan. Each of these young people will be attending college in the fall to pursue a career in the arts.

Edmonds Arts Festival

In its 54th year, the Edmonds Arts Festival attracts artists from across the nation and is attended by over 75,000 art lovers from across the Northwest. Enjoy Artist booths on the field, Juried Gallery, Performing Arts, Children's art and activities, and a variety of food vendors. Purchase a poster by featured artist Randy Emmons. DO YOU HAVE STORIES ABOUT DOWNTOWN EDMONDS?

Work is beginning on the Preserve America grant project to create a Cultural Heritage Walking Tour of downtown Edmonds focused on a loop along Main Street, north on 4th Avenue up to the ECA and back on 5th.  Residents, property owners, and interested community members are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about the project.

 

Do you have stories or photographs you would like to share?  Be part of preserving our community history and share your memories about 4th Avenue and downtown Edmonds.  An artist will be selected to create informative signage and markers which highlight community history and personal stories. Additional information will be accessible on the tour website.

 

The City Arts Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, HistoricMuseum, EdmondsCenter for the Arts, Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation, and EdCCEdmondsConferenceCenter are partnering on this project and we need your help in gathering our collective story for this part of downtown Edmonds.

Write on the Sound

Sept 30-Oct 2, 2011 - 700 Main St, Edmonds

Plan now to attend the 26th annual Write on the Sound Writers' Conference. Award-winning Oregon writer John Daniel will be the Keynote speaker on October 1. Daniel is a nonfiction writer and poet. His most recent book, "The Far Corner: Northwestern Views on Land, Life, and Literature", displays his usual clarity and brilliance writing about the ground he walks and the landscapes he inhabits in the PNW.  Also: enter the themed writing contest ("Remnants"), sign up for a one-on-one manuscript critique, hone your skills at one of the half-day pre-conference or shorter weekend workshops.

October 19-23, 2011 - the Second Annual Edmonds International Film Festival will be held in downtown Edmonds.  EIFF is interested in cross-promoting associated arts events or possibly integrating arts events with the festival.
