| The Director's Corner |
Dear Students and Colleagues, Thank you for the warm welcome you've extended to me since
my arrival on campus last month. I feel a great sense of pride and
responsibility as I assume the NC-HCAP director's position. From Dr. Cecil
Sheps' founding of this organization in 1971, we have had tremendous history of
effective and visionary leadership in this position and I will do my best to
uphold and even exceed the standards of those who have come before me. I have spent my first thirty days on the job meeting our
students, campus partners and colleagues and other supporters throughout the
state. I have enjoyed our conversations and am excited about the opportunities
that lie before us this year. Students interested in a health professions career are certainly the center of NC-HCAP's
focus, and I am committed to fostering an environment where students feel
valued and nurtured. I plan to build on our existing programs and, with the help of campus partners and colleagues, develop an infrastructure that will sustain
relationships with our participants throughout their educational journey. In time, I
also hope to create a continuous pipeline of program initiatives for North Carolina's
underrepresented, first-generation and economically disadvantaged students - from kindergarten
through college - who are interested in health careers. There is much to be done, but I know if we work together, we can make it happen. I wish you all a very successful academic year and look
forward to seeing you at NC-HCAP events this year. Warmest regards, Dr. Roz
Rosalyn Beecham-Green, Ph.D. Director
